Type — cordless stick (battery)
A CORDLESS STICK with a battery; mode-dependent runtime (boost drains fast). PowerDetect auto-adjusts suction to dirt/floor, so the pull and sound change automatically — a feature, not surging.
Filter & airway
Washable filter — wash on schedule, dry fully. Clear the wand and head for suction loss; a damp filter cuts suction and runtime.
Battery/charging
Charges on its base or dock; if it will not run, confirm it is charged and the battery is seated. Boost mode always runs shorter than the standard mode.
Detect mode
Detect mode turns on the full Detect Technology. Shark recommends it for the best result and the best battery runtime. Floor Detect senses the floor type and adjusts brushroll speed, Dirt Detect finds hidden dirt for extra pickup, and Direction Detect picks up debris on both forward and reverse strokes.
Where to read the model
Shark prints the model number on a label under the dust cup or on the base of the handle. For the PowerDetect Speed, the model begins with IZ or ZZ. Shark's support uses the number to find the right filters and batteries.
Filters and dust cup
The PowerDetect has a washable filter pair. Rinse them in cold water and let them dry for a day. Empty the dust cup before it is full, and wipe the seal, since dust on the seal lets air leak.
Battery notes
Shark's batteries are removable on this model, so a spare can be kept charged. Store the machine away from heat and cold and charge it after use. A battery that runs a little shorter each year is normal.
Troubleshooting suction
A weak Shark usually has a full cup, a dirty filter or a blocked hose. Check each from the cup outwards. The brushroll may also be stuck with hair, so remove it and clear it. Check the seal on the cup and that the filters are seated.
Storing and charging
Charge on the dock after use and keep the machine away from heat and damp. The charging light shows the state. If the battery will not charge, check the dock's power and the contacts before you suspect the pack.

My Shark PowerDetect Speed won't turn on.+

First confirm it is charged — seat it fully on the dock/charger and look for the charge indicator; a fully depleted battery needs time before it will start. Check the battery is clicked in properly. If it charged but still cuts out, clear any blockage in the wand, dust cup and head (a blockage trips the protection) and wash/dry the filter. Boost mode also drains the battery fast, so a short run then stop can simply be a low charge on high power.
