• Type — CORDED upright (no battery)
  A CORDED upright — mains-powered, no battery/runtime. High suction with DuoClean PowerFins (a fin-based brushroll for continuous floor contact).
• Brushroll & hair wrap
  PowerFins plus anti-hair-wrap, but a stopped roller is still usually wrapped hair at the ends or a thermal cut-out after a jam. Clear the roller/head and let it cool if it stopped with a smell.
• Filter & airway
  Washable filters plus HEPA — wash on schedule, dry fully. Clear the wand, hose and head for suction loss.
• What owners run into
  Suction that fades when the filters are clogged, brushrolls that stop when hair wraps round them and a unit that overheats and stops when airflow is blocked.
• How to approach a fault
  Empty the dust cup, rinse the foam and felt filters and let them dry for a day, clear the hose and the brushroll area and check the canister seals.
• Maintenance
  Clean the filters monthly and trim hair from the brushroll, and replace the HEPA filter as the manual recommends.

• Using the lift-away
  The lift-away canister detaches from the base so that you can clean stairs, upholstery and ceilings, but a loose seal at the joint reduces suction, so click the canister in firmly after use. For hard floors, switch off the brushroll if the model allows, and use the right setting for each surface. The DuoClean PowerFins pick up fine dust on hard floors and help with pet hair on carpets, and the self-cleaning brushroll removes much of the hair that wraps round a normal brush bar. Even so, check the brushroll monthly for stuck fibers.
• Filters and parts
  Rinse the foam and felt filters in cold water and let them dry for a day before replacing them, and change the HEPA filter as the manual says. Check the hose for blockages by looking through it. Registering the product helps with warranty claims, and parts such as filters and brushrolls can be bought from Shark.
