- Hardware — GE Appliances product page5.0 cu ft, SmartDispense, UltraFresh Vent System with OdorBlock, Steam cycle, Sanitize cycle, Dynamic Balancing Technology, Microban antimicrobial technology.
- Type & capacity5.0 cu. ft. FRONT-LOAD washer with a door gasket.
- UltraFresh Vent + MicrobanUltraFresh vent and Microban-treated gasket/dispenser/drain fight odor — keep the feature enabled and the door ajar rather than assuming a fault when comparing to other front-loaders.
- Smart & steamWi-Fi via SmartHQ and Steam on this tier; check your build for SmartDispense. A drain-pump filter behind the lower panel handles most 'won't drain' complaints.
- Cycles12 wash cycles, including a Sanitize cycle that kills 99% of common bacteria and allergens such as dust mites.
- Dispensing and odorSmartDispense, and UltraFresh Vent System with OdorBlock to keep the drum dry.
- OtherMicroban antimicrobial protection and Dynamic Balancing. Some finishes add Wi-Fi and steam.
- Label and numbersThe GFW655 is a GE front-load washer. Its serial number sits on a label inside the door opening, where you can read it with the door ajar, and the model number begins with GFW. GE's service line will ask for both, so note them while the washer is set up.
- Front-load careA front-load washer needs the door gasket wiped after use and the door left open a little to dry. Use HE detergent only, since ordinary detergent makes suds that fool the water level sensor. Clean the drain pump filter, behind a small panel at the bottom front, several times a year.
- SmartHQ connectionGE's SmartHQ app lets you start and monitor the washer and receive alerts. Pair it on a 2.4 GHz network, keep the washer within range of the router and do not rename the network during pairing, which is a common reason for a failed link.
- Cycles and when to use themA front-load washer from GE offers cycles for normal, bulky, delicate and sanitizing loads. Use the cycle that matches the fabric label, since a Bulky cycle with a light load wastes water and a Normal cycle with a heavy load leaves it unbalanced. The Sanitize option raises the water temperature and lengthens the cycle, so it is for loads that need it.
- What to do in a power cutIf the power fails mid-cycle, the door may stay locked until power returns and the washer drains. Do not force it. When power comes back, let the washer finish or run Drain and Spin before you open the door, and wait a few minutes after the drum stops.

How do I clean my GE GFW655 to prevent odor?+
GE's UltraFresh system already airs the drum and uses Microban, so first make sure that feature is on and you leave the door ajar between loads. Then run the Clean Washer / Sanitize with Oxi cycle periodically, wipe and dry the door gasket and its folds, and use only a small amount of HE detergent. Overdosing detergent is the main cause of residue and odor even on an UltraFresh machine.
