GE washing machines: front-load, top-load and SmartHQ

GE Appliances sells front-load washers such as the GFW series and top-loaders with the Deep Fill and Smart Dispense options, and the model pages here are organized by number. The problems that bring owners to this page are a drain fault, a door that will not lock, a washer that shakes, long cycles, odors and the SmartHQ app. Each has its own page for the model, and the code directory lists what GE's display codes mean.

For drain faults, clean the pump filter, check the hose and the standpipe and try a Drain and Spin cycle. For a door that will not lock, look for a caught item, close the door firmly and check that the washer is not overloaded. For shaking, level the washer and spread the load. For odors, use the Clean Washer cycle, wipe the seal and leave the door open. Long cycles on a front-load washer are normal when the sensors add rinses for excess suds.

GE prints the model and serial numbers on a label inside the door opening or on the back, and the full model code is longer than the short name, so copy all of it. SmartHQ pairs on a 2.4 GHz network and lets you start the washer and follow its progress. GE's support line asks for the model and serial and for any code shown.
