Haier HLC1700 washer/dryer combo makes grinding, squealing, clicking or banging noises

Haier HLC1700 washer/dryer combo makes grinding, squealing, clicking or banging noises: describe the sound by stage and speed before assuming a motor or bearing failure. Scoped to HLC1700A*.

Haier's manual separates normal sounds from problems on the HLC1700AXW. Normal: tumbling sounds as wet clothes are tossed around, an air-rushing noise when the tub spins at high rpm, clicking as the wash and rinse cycles go on and off along with spraying and splashing, and the drain pump when dirty water is being drained. Problems: a drum that was not unlocked correctly at installation (remove the shipping bolts), coins, loose change or buttons left in pockets, support feet that have not been adjusted, and a load that needs rebalancing. The Button Trap catches small loose items before they damage the machine.

Model-specific

Normal Operating Sounds list
Haier's manual names four normal sounds: tumbling as heavy wet clothes are tossed, an air-rushing noise at very high spin rpm, clicking with spraying and splashing as wash and rinse cycles go on and off, and the drain pump when dirty water drains. Sounds that are not on that list, and especially grinding or scraping, are the ones to investigate.
Feet, floor and shipping hardware
The manual's transport section shows the transportation bolts, rubber grommets and plastic spacers that hold the drum still behind the back plate; until they are removed the drum cannot float on its suspension and the unit shakes and knocks. The four adjustable feet each have a locking nut that must be tightened after levelling so the vibration does not loosen them.
