What is true of this model and changes how you fix it

• Type — TOP-LOAD
  A TOP-LOAD washer; identify AGITATOR versus IMPELLER, which changes loading and cleaning advice. HE low-water fill is normal.
• Top-load behavior
  Lid-lock before spin; a 'won't spin' is usually balance or the lid switch. A mid-range model — check whether yours has Wi-Fi before ThinQ troubleshooting.
• Top-load behavior
  A high-efficiency top-loader uses little water and senses the load; the drum never fills like an old machine.
• The UE code
  LG's UE code means an unbalanced load. The washer stops, tries to redistribute and, if it cannot, signals. Opening the lid, spreading the load and restarting clears it in most cases.

  Banging on the spin, stopping with a flashing code, a rumble from the base and a washer that walks are the usual complaints.
• Care that prevents faults
  Level the washer, balance loads, avoid washing a single bulky item and keep the area around the tub clean.
• Reading an LG code
  LG washers show short codes on the display: UE for an unbalanced load, OE for a drain problem, LE for a locked motor and dE for a door or lid problem. Note the code before you unplug the washer, because it names the next check, and the code list in the manual is short.
• Smart Diagnosis
  Some LG washers support a Smart Diagnosis feature that lets support hear the washer's status tones through a phone. If your model has it, support may ask you to run it; it reads the washer's fault memory without a technician visit.
• The 4-way agitator
  This washer uses a central agitator with fins that move clothes in several directions. Items tied in knots or long straps can wrap round it, so button shirts and close zips before the cycle starts.
• TurboWash and cycle length
  The TurboWash cycle shortens the wash by using more water and a stronger action. A normal cycle can run an hour or more, so a long cycle with a heavy load is not by itself a fault.
• Lid lock and balance
  The lid locks during the spin. If the lid will not unlock after a cycle, wait a few minutes with the power on, and if the load is unbalanced, redistribute it before the next spin.
• Cleaning the tub
  A monthly tub clean cycle with a washer cleaner removes residue, and leaving the lid ajar between loads keeps the drum fresh.
• Cycle length
  A normal cycle on a top-loader with an agitator can run an hour or more, and a bulky load adds a longer rinse. A long cycle with a heavy load is not by itself a fault, and the quick-wash option is the choice for a small, lightly soiled load.
