  Lid-lock before spin; a 'won't spin' is usually balance or the lid switch.
• Tangling
  Tangled clothes are mostly a loading pattern. On an impeller model place items loosely and evenly around the plate; on an agitator model do not wrap sheets or long items around the post. Mix large and small items and do not overfill.

  Tangled sheets, a stopped spin, a washer that uses little water and clothes that smell stale are the usual reports.

  Load loosely, measure HE detergent, run the clean cycle when the reminder shows and leave the lid open between loads.
• Cleaning the tub
  The 5.0 cubic foot tub should be cleaned with the washer's clean cycle or a hot cycle with a washer cleaner every month or two. Wipe under the lid and around the wash plate, and leave the lid open so the drum dries. A damp tub is the main cause of a stale smell in a top-loader.
• Balancing a load
  Place heavy items opposite lighter ones, avoid washing a single bulky item and do not push clothes down onto the plate. A washer that stops with an imbalance message after a few seconds of spin needs the load redistributed, not a repair.
• Top-load basics
  A top-loader with an agitator-free wash plate relies on the load being spread evenly. Clothes balled to one side cause a bang at spin, so redistribute the load by hand and keep the lid closed when the spin starts.
• Using the right detergent
  This washer needs high-efficiency detergent in a measured amount. Too much detergent makes a washer take longer to rinse and can cause the machine to pause in the middle of a cycle.
• Self Clean and care
  The Self Clean+ cycle uses hot water to loosen residue. Run it every month or two, and leave the lid open after use so the tub dries and a musty smell does not form.
• Where to look first
  If the washer will not start, check that the lid is shut, the power is on and a child lock is off. The code shown on the display points to a door, water or drain issue, and noting it saves time on a repair call.
