eero 6+ mesh node or satellite is offline

eero 6+ mesh node or satellite is offline: node power, parent signal, firmware, account and backhaul should be separated. Scoped to eero 6+.

When the eero app shows a node of an eero 6+ system as offline, the node has lost power, its wireless link to the rest of the network or its Ethernet link. Check the node's light and the app together. No light means no power, so check the outlet, the adapter and any switched socket. A red light means the node cannot reach the internet through the network, which usually means it cannot see the gateway, and the fix is to move it closer or link it by Ethernet. A blinking blue light means it is waiting to be set up, and has lost its configuration.

The checks in more detail

Start by unplugging the node for thirty seconds and plugging it back in, then wait a few minutes for it to rejoin. Many nodes return after that. If it stays offline, think about placement. eero advises placing nodes about two rooms apart; a node too far from the gateway has a weak link and drops, and one too near wastes coverage. A node in a cupboard, behind a television or beside a microwave suffers too. Move it to an open spot between the gateway and the area you want covered, and check its signal in the app.

Where possible, connect it to the gateway by Ethernet, which makes the link stable. A power cut can leave the nodes starting in the wrong order, so restart the modem, then the gateway, then the nodes. If the node was moved to another house, or the network was reset, add it again through the app with Add or replace eero. After a firmware update a node may take a few minutes to return. If a node goes offline repeatedly, swap its power adapter and outlet, and if it still fails, contact eero support with its serial number.

If you have more than one node, change one thing at a time so that you can tell what helped. Move the offline node to the same room as the gateway for a test: if it comes online there and goes offline in its usual place, the position is the problem and you should find a spot about two rooms from the gateway with a clearer path. If it will not come online even beside the gateway, the unit or its power is faulty, and a swap of adapter and outlet confirms it. Record the serial number from the label, which eero support will ask for if you need a replacement.

Before you touch a setting

Record this first — changing settings destroys the evidence

  • The node's light color
  • Its distance from the gateway
  • Whether it was moved or reset
  • The signal in the app

Model-specific

What is true of this model and not of its siblings

Order
Restart modem, then gateway, then nodes.
Ethernet
A wired link is the most stable.

Stop boundary

When this stops being a self-service repair

  • !If a node stays offline after a power swap, contact eero support with its serial number
  • !If the light is red, check the gateway
  • !Use Ethernet for stability
