eero 6 troubleshooting
eero 6 (eero 6): the standard eero 6; what owners run into; how to approach a fault; finding your unit; wiring and placement; spares and extras, and a fix for each symptom below.
- The standard eero 6The eero 6 sits between the 6+ and the Pro 6, a dual-band Wi-Fi 6 mesh unit for homes with plans up to about a gigabit. It is set up and managed in the eero app, and its light and the app's signal readings show quickly whether a unit is healthy.

What is true of this model and changes how you fix it
- Official specificationsDual-band (2.4GHz 2x2, 5.2GHz 2x2), up to 900Mbps wireless / 1Gbps wired (router unit) — the entry-tier 'eero 6 Extender' variant of the same family has NO Ethernet ports at all. Covers up to 1,500 sq ft per device, 75+ devices.
- Wi-Fi 6 dual-band MESH (entry)The entry Wi-Fi 6 (AX) dual-band eero mesh (2.4/5 GHz). Units cover a home; a weak room means a node is too far. Lower top speeds than the Pro/6E/7 models — a generation/tier characteristic, not a fault.
- eero is app-only + auto-updatesManaged through the eero app (no web admin), auto-updating, TrueMesh.
- Mesh backhaulDual-band shared backhaul — keep nodes close or wire them for best speed.
- What owners run intoReports include a unit that goes offline after a power cut, a smart plug that will not join because it needs the 2.4 gigahertz band, and speeds that fall off in far rooms. Guest networks that cannot see printers are by design.
- How to approach a faultRestart the modem, then the gateway eero, then the other units, check each unit's light and move any unit that is too far from its neighbor. Use Ethernet between units where you can.
- Finding your unitThe label under the eero shows the model and serial number, and the app lists the software version. Quote both to eero support. The eero 6 uses the same app as other eero models, and you can mix generations in one network.
- Wiring and placementPut the units about two rooms apart in the open and off the floor. Wired links keep full speed and free the radio for devices. Keep units away from microwaves, metal shelves and the back of a television.
- Spares and extrasKeep a spare Ethernet cable and a spare power adapter, since a failed adapter looks like a dead unit. A small switch lets you wire several devices to one unit, and a longer cable lets you link units by Ethernet. If you add units later, use the app's Add or replace eero option, and keep the serial numbers in a note in case you need support.

Questions that only have an answer for the eero 6
My eero 6 doesn't reach my top internet speed.+
The entry eero 6 is a dual-band Wi-Fi 6 system tuned for coverage and everyday use rather than peak throughput, and it shares the 5 GHz band for backhaul — so on a very fast internet plan it may not deliver the full speed wirelessly, especially on satellites. Wire the main eero to the modem, connect satellites by Ethernet where possible, and expect the highest speeds close to the main unit. For gigabit-plus plans, the eero Pro/6E/7 models are better suited.
Can I mix eero models?+
Yes, in one network.
What does a blue light mean?+
The unit is waiting to be set up.
