• A big phone with a new button
  Apple's largest phone of the 2024 line is built around a 6.9 inch screen, a titanium frame and a new pressure-sensitive Camera Control on the right edge. It is a heavy phone, close to 227 grams, and the first Pro Max where owners talk more about handling than about specifications.
• What owners run into
  The weight and size cause as many complaints as faults: a case that presses the Camera Control, a screen protector that lifts at the edge, a phone that is hard to use one-handed. Heat during setup, long video recording and charging while gaming is normal for a phone this powerful, and it throttles to cool itself.
• How to approach a fault
  If the Camera Control misbehaves, check Settings, Camera, Camera Control before suspecting hardware, and try the phone without its case. Update iOS first, because Apple has tuned the button's behavior with updates since launch.
• Finding your exact model
  Settings, General, About shows the model name; the number starting with A is printed in small type at the bottom of older iPhones but is only shown in the settings on this one. The model matters for cases, because the iPhone 16 Pro Max is longer than the 15 Pro Max, and a case for the older phone will not fit the Camera Control.
• Living with a big phone
  At about 227 grams it is the heaviest iPhone, so many owners notice wrist strain, a phone that slips from a pocket and a screen that is hard to reach one-handed. Reachability, a pop socket or a lighter case solve most of these, and Display Zoom in Settings can make the text and buttons larger without changing the physical size.
• Storage, backup and transfer
  The 16 Pro Max comes in 256 gigabytes and up, and a phone that has recorded a lot of 4K video fills fast. Check Settings, General, iPhone Storage, offload apps you do not use, and move video to a computer or iCloud. Transferring from an older iPhone with Quick Start copies apps and settings directly and is faster than restoring from iCloud.
