What is true of this model and changes how you fix it
- Hardware — Apple tech-specs article13-inch Liquid Retina LCD (2732x2048, 60Hz, no ProMotion), Apple M2 chip, 8GB RAM, USB-C, supports Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil (USB-C) — not the 1st/2nd-gen Pencil.
- Tier — Air (M2, Liquid Retina LCD)A 13-inch iPad Air with the M2 chip and a Liquid Retina LCD (bright, but not the Pro's OLED). Supports the Apple Pencil Pro. USB-C (not Thunderbolt-fast like the Pro). iPadOS.
- Apple Pencil ProSupports the Apple Pencil Pro and USB-C Pencil, NOT the 1st/2nd-gen — a pairing failure may be the wrong Pencil generation.
- Wi-Fi or CellularWi-Fi or Wi-Fi+Cellular (eSIM); no signal on a Wi-Fi model is expected.
- The Air goes largeThis was the iPad Air's first appearance at 13 inches. It pairs the M2 chip with a Liquid Retina LCD, moves the front camera to the landscape edge and adds Apple Pencil Pro support, which makes it the sensible big-screen iPad for anyone who does not need the OLED and the price of the Pro.
- What owners run intoOwners choose it for the big screen at a lower price than the Pro and then meet the limits of the LCD in dark rooms. Faults are mostly everyday ones: Wi-Fi dropping after an iPadOS update, the keyboard cover not connecting and a Touch ID reader that fails with wet fingers.
- How to approach a faultTry a restart, update iPadOS, remove the case and test. Dry the finger and re-enrol the fingerprint if Touch ID fails.
- Finding your exact modelOpen Settings, General, About to see the model name and number. The 13 inch Air of 2024 is new, so a cover or keyboard made for the 12.9 inch Pro will not fit it, and a listing that says only iPad Air may refer to the smaller models.
- Who the 13 inch Air suitsIt suits people who want a big screen for reading, drawing or split-screen work without the price of a Pro. The LCD is not as bright or contrasty as the Pro's OLED, but it is accurate and comfortable, and the M2 chip handles photo and video editing comfortably.
- Pencil and keyboard choicesThe Air supports the Apple Pencil Pro and the USB-C Pencil, and it works with the Magic Keyboard and the Smart Folio. If the Pencil does not charge, check that it sits on the flat edge of the iPad, which carries the magnets, and not near a case that adds thickness.

Exact questions
Questions that only have an answer for the Apple iPad Air 13-inch (M2)
Is my iPad Air M2 display as good as the iPad Pro's?+
It is very good but not the same — the iPad Air M2 uses a Liquid Retina LCD, while the iPad Pro M4 uses a brighter tandem-OLED with true blacks and higher peak brightness. So the Air's screen is a tier below the Pro's by design, not a fault, and it also lacks the Pro's 120 Hz ProMotion. Both are M-series iPads with Apple Pencil Pro support; the Pro adds the OLED, ProMotion and Thunderbolt.
Does the 13 inch Air have a mini-LED screen?+
No, it has a Liquid Retina LCD, not the OLED of the Pro.
Where is the Touch ID sensor?+
In the top button, which also works as the power button.
Does the 13 inch Air have OLED?+
No, it has an LCD.
Which Pencils does it support?+
The Apple Pencil Pro and the USB-C Pencil.
