Samsung Galaxy S22 (SM-S901*): small phone, many parts; what owners run into; how to approach a fault; finding your model and software; fingerprint and screen protectors; microphone care, and a fix for each symptom below.
- Small phone, many partsThe compact Galaxy S22 is a small phone with an ultrasonic fingerprint reader, three microphones and a battery that has done well to last this long. Many of its common faults come from protectors, lint and age rather than software.

What is true of this model and changes how you fix it
- Camera — 10MP front, 3 rear12MP Ultra Wide, 50MP Wide, 10MP Telephoto (3x optical zoom).
- Display and battery6.1-inch screen, 3,700mAh battery — the smallest cell in the S22 line.
- Storage/RAM128GB or 256GB, 8GB RAM. No S Pen on this tier.
- Battery/ageA small battery plus several years of age can shorten runtime further — a worn battery is replaceable via Samsung service.
- What owners run intoThe ultrasonic reader fails with the wrong screen protector, and a thin voice on calls usually means lint in the bottom microphone hole. The small battery has aged, so many S22 phones need charging twice a day.
- How to approach a faultTake off the protector to test the fingerprint reader, clean the bottom opening gently, and check Battery health. For a microphone fault, record a short video to see whether the hardware works.
- Finding your model and softwareSettings, About phone shows the model number and patch date. The S22 compact is the smallest of its family, and its parts differ from the S22+ and Ultra.
- Fingerprint and screen protectorsThe ultrasonic reader reads through glass but not through a thick air-gapped protector. Samsung advises registering fingerprints with the protector already on the phone, and replacing a damaged protector can require re-registering.
- Microphone careThe S22 has microphones at the bottom, top and near the rear camera. Lint and pocket debris in the bottom opening are the commonest cause of a thin voice on calls, and a gentle clean with a dry brush often fixes it. Record a short video to test whether the microphones themselves work.
- Spotting a tired S22Signs that the phone has aged are a battery that drops quickly after unplugging, slow charging, a back that warms in idle and a sensor that no longer wakes the screen. Run Samsung Members diagnostics for the battery and sensors. These tests are free and tell you whether a battery replacement or a more thorough repair is the sensible next step.

Exact questions
Questions that only have an answer for the Samsung Galaxy S22
My Galaxy S22 battery life has gotten much worse.+
Two things: the S22's compact battery was always modest, and after a few years the cell has aged and lost capacity. Check battery usage by app (Settings › Battery), disable always-on display and reduce brightness/refresh, and update software. If runtime is very poor, a Samsung battery replacement restores it. Rule out a stuck app or a bad update first by restarting and checking which app is draining.
What fingerprint reader does the S22 have?+
An ultrasonic reader under the display.
Why do callers say I sound muffled?+
A blocked microphone opening or a Bluetooth device taking your voice.
Should I register my fingerprint with the protector on?+
Yes, Samsung advises that.
How do I test the microphones?+
Record a short video and play it back.
