Samsung Galaxy S23+ will not connect to Wi-Fi or keeps disconnecting

Samsung Galaxy S23+ will not connect to Wi-Fi or keeps disconnecting: one network, all networks, VPN/profile and radio hardware produce different fixes. Scoped to SM-S916*.

The Galaxy S23+ has a 6.6-inch frame with Wi-Fi 6E and WPA3 support, so when it connects badly the usual story is a router that does not handle those standards well, not an antenna fault. If your phone joins the network but pages will not load, if it keeps falling back to mobile data in the same room, or if a guest or work network will not let it in, the cause is almost always one of four things: Intelligent Wi-Fi switching, the router's security mode, a stale saved profile, or the MAC address option. Work through them in that order and leave Reset network settings as the last step, because it also erases your saved Wi-Fi passwords.

Differential

Likely causes of “Samsung Galaxy S23+ will not connect to Wi-Fi or keeps disconnecting”, and how to tell them apart

  1. 1

Intelligent Wi-Fi decides your connection is poor

What separates it The Wi-Fi symbol disappears for a moment and mobile data takes over while you are standing next to the router

How to confirm Open Wi-Fi, three dots, Intelligent Wi-Fi, and switch off Switch to mobile data and Auto switch between Wi-Fi networks

  2. 2

The router's security mode does not suit WPA3

What separates it The phone says Authentication problem or Connected, no internet, while an older phone works

How to confirm Log in to the router and set the 5 GHz network to WPA2/WPA3 mixed, then rejoin from the S23+

  3. 3

A saved network entry that has gone stale

What separates it The network worked last week and now fails after a router firmware update

How to confirm Tap the gear beside the network, choose Forget, and join again with the password retyped

  4. 4

A random MAC address that the network rejects

What separates it A work, school or hotel network blocks only your phone

How to confirm In the network's Advanced options set MAC address type to Phone MAC and reconnect

  5. 5

A congested channel on the 5 GHz band

What separates it The speed is fine at 7 a.m. and poor in the evening

How to confirm Change the router's channel or test on the 2.4 GHz band, which has better reach through walls

Before you touch a setting

Record this first — changing settings destroys the evidence

  • Router make and model, the band you are on, and the security mode
  • The exact message on screen, such as Authentication problem or Connected without internet
  • Whether another phone or a laptop works on the same network
  • The One UI version and security patch date under Software information

Try in this order

0 of 6 completed
  1. Restart the router and the phone

    Reversible

Switch the router off for two minutes and the phone for one, then bring the router up first and wait for its lights to settle before you rejoin.

  2. Forget and rejoin

    Reversible

Open Settings, Connections, Wi-Fi, tap the gear beside the network and choose Forget. Join again and type the password rather than reusing a saved one.

  3. Turn off the automatic switch to mobile data

    Reversible

In the Wi-Fi screen open the three-dot menu, then Intelligent Wi-Fi. Switching the two automatic options off stops the phone abandoning a working link.

  4. Test the router in WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode

    Reversible

In the router's admin page change the 5 GHz security. If the phone then holds the connection, the original security mode was the fault and the router may need a firmware update.

  5. Try the other band

    Reversible

Join the 2.4 GHz network if there is a separate name for it. If the phone is stable there but not on 5 GHz, move the router channel or the router itself.

  6. Reset network settings last

    Reset / data risk

Settings, General management, Reset, Reset network settings. It clears a corrupted profile but also forgets Wi-Fi networks and Bluetooth pairings.

Model-specific

What is true of this model and not of its siblings

What the S23+ brings to Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi 6E, WPA3 and Bluetooth 5.3 on a 6.6-inch body with a 4,700 mAh battery; it can use the 6 GHz band if your router offers it.
If you use a mesh system
Mesh nodes sometimes hand a phone between access points badly. Turn off Auto switch between Wi-Fi networks and let the phone stay on the nearest node.

Stop boundary

When this stops being a self-service repair

  • !If the S23+ cannot join any network, even in Safe mode and after Reset network settings, book a Samsung hardware check
  • !If only one network fails, the router maker or your internet provider is the right place to go
  • !If the Wi-Fi switch will not turn on at all, restart once and then book a service visit

Exact questions

Common questions

Does the Galaxy S23+ support Wi-Fi 6E?+

Yes. Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 are listed for the S23 family, but 6E only gives a benefit when your router also supports it.

Why does my S23+ say connected but have no internet?+

The connection to the router is fine and something upstream is failing, such as the router's DNS or its internet link. Test with a laptop, then forget and rejoin.

Should I use 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz on the S23+?+

5 GHz is faster near the router and 2.4 GHz reaches further. If the phone drops at a distance, 2.4 GHz is steadier.

Does a network reset erase my photos?+

No. It erases saved Wi-Fi networks, mobile settings and Bluetooth pairings, not photos or apps.
