What is true of this model and changes how you fix it
- What it isThe primary in-home controller for the ADT Blu system. It manages every paired sensor and device, includes a built-in keypad on top for arming/disarming, a built-in alarm siren, a built-in speaker and Emergency response buttons — though ADT states the Emergency feature works only on professionally monitored plans.
- PowerRequires continuous AC power from an outlet within 5 feet that is not controlled by a switch, and carries a battery backup. It is not a battery-primary device the way the sensors are.
- ConnectivityNeeds both Wi-Fi at 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz and cellular service in the area where it is installed — ADT states the Base connects to its servers over both paths, not Wi-Fi alone.
- PlacementADT recommends a central, first- or second-floor location — a far corner or a basement can leave the Base unable to receive signals from sensors on the opposite side of the home, since it receives all sensor events wirelessly.
- Siren and keypadAn alarm siren rated 85 dB at 10 ft, a built-in keypad on top and a speaker for voice prompts.
- Wi-Fi and Z-WaveWi-Fi on 2.4 or 5 GHz is required, and Z-Wave support lets third-party devices connect.
- What the base doesThe base is the hub of an ADT system: it talks to the sensors, keypads and cameras, sounds the siren and reaches ADT's monitoring over Wi-Fi with cellular backup. If the base is offline, sensors may stop reporting, so check its power and connection first when something stops working.
- Status lightsThe light on the base changes color with the system state, such as armed, disarmed, offline or in a trouble condition, and ADT's status indicator article explains each color for your model.
- Resetting a baseADT's help articles describe how to restart the base for your model. A factory reset can remove the system from your account and may need ADT to set it up again, so use it only on ADT's advice.

Exact questions
Questions that only have an answer for the ADT Base
Does the ADT Base need Wi-Fi, cellular, or both?+
Both. ADT's own setup requirements list Wi-Fi at 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz and cellular service in the installation area as separate prerequisites — losing either one is enough to take the Base offline even if the other is fine.
Can I put the ADT Base in the basement?+
ADT advises against it. The Base receives every sensor's wireless signal, and the company specifically names basements as generally weaker for coverage than a first- or second-floor central location.
Will the Base call for help if I'm not professionally monitored?+
The Emergency response buttons on top of the Base are documented by ADT as working only with professional monitoring — a self-monitored system does not get that dispatch path from the Base's own buttons.
Why does my ADT base show offline?+
The Wi-Fi or router may be down, or the base lost power. Check the router and the base's power and try again.
Does the ADT base work without Wi-Fi?+
Many systems have cellular backup, so the base can still report to monitoring, though app control may stop.
Should I restart the base for a sensor problem?+
Try a sensor battery and range check first; restart the base if several devices go offline together.
