What is true of this model and changes how you fix it

• Panel — QD-Mini LED QLED
  2024 mid Mini-LED QLED — bright and colorful with local dimming, but fewer zones than the flagship QM8, so slightly more blooming. Still a backlight, so some halo around bright objects on black is normal, not a fault.
• Smart platform — Google TV
  Runs Google TV. Update at Settings › System › About › System update; Chromecast built-in for casting. Not a Roku TV.
• Gaming / HDMI
  Native 144 Hz with two HDMI 2.1 ports (and two HDMI 2.0), VRR, ALLM and FreeSync. Put the console on an HDMI 2.1 port and enable Game Mode. Supports Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10 and HLG.
• Newer QM7 generations
  The QM7K and QM7L that followed have different port layouts (two HDMI 2.1 and two HDMI 2.0 with eARC on one of the 2.0 ports on the QM7K), so an owner reading a newer review should check the model letter.
• Label and version
  The QM7 label at the back lists the model and serial numbers. Because TCL sold QM7 variants in different years, check the letter after QM7 on the label before following a guide for another year.
• Using Google TV
  The QM7 runs Google TV, which learns your viewing and offers recommendations. Sign in with a Google account to install apps, and use the Settings, Accounts menu to manage profiles. A voice remote button calls Google Assistant.
• Mini-LED behavior
  Mini-LED backlights divide the screen into zones, and a bright object on a dark background can show a faint halo. Adjusting local dimming to a lower level reduces the effect, at some cost in contrast.
• Setup suggestions
  After the first start, update the software, then choose the Movie picture mode and turn off Motion smoothing for films. If the room is bright, increase the brightness a little. Use Game mode for consoles to reduce lag. Set the audio output to your soundbar or the TV speakers.
• Streaming tips
  Use a cable to the router if streaming buffers, or move the router closer. Check the network speed in Settings, Network. Apps update on their own, but you can reinstall a misbehaving app from the Google TV store.
• Warranty and support
  TCL's warranty covers defects for a stated period from purchase. Keep the receipt, and note the model, serial and software version before you contact TCL's support. Their support pages list firmware downloads for each model.
