• Panel — Mini-LED QLED
  The 6-Series R655 is a Mini-LED QLED with strong local dimming — a backlight, so some blooming is normal, but well controlled. A capable picture from an earlier TCL generation.
• Smart platform — ROKU TV (not Google TV)
  The R655 runs Roku OS built in, NOT Google TV. Update at Settings › System › System update; screen mirroring is Miracast and AirPlay 2; the remote and app store are Roku's. Google-TV instructions do not apply — this is the key difference from TCL's Q-series and the R646.
• Gaming / HDMI
  A 120 Hz panel with HDMI 2.1 supporting 4K 120 Hz, VRR and ALLM. Enable Game Mode / Auto Low Latency. Supports Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG.

  Reviewers cite 1,315 nits peak brightness, a rare 144 Hz refresh rate and VRR support, with picture quality that varies widely between picture modes (some look washed out or oversaturated).
• Size and weight
  The 65-inch is 32.8 x 56.9 x 2.7 in and weighs 50.7 lb without the stand. It comes in 55, 65, 75 and 85 inches.
• Roku TV basics
  The 6-Series R655 is a TCL Roku TV, so the home screen, apps and settings follow Roku's design. The label on the back gives the model and serial numbers, and the Settings, System, About menu shows the software version.
• Updating
  Roku TVs update automatically when connected. To check by hand, go to Settings, System, System update, Check now. Keep the TV connected so that new features and fixes arrive.
• Remote and controls
  The Roku remote can be re-paired from the TV's menu, and the Roku mobile app can serve as a remote. If the TV does not respond, unplug it for a minute to reset it.
• Streaming and apps
  Roku TVs hold a long list of channels. Add one from the Streaming Channels menu. If an app is slow, remove it and add it again. Roku's Settings, Network shows the signal strength, which helps with buffering.
• Picture and sound
  The R655 has picture modes you can choose from the options button on the remote while a show is playing. Try Movie or Natural for films. For sound, use the ARC port with a soundbar and set the TV's audio output to match.
• Warranty and support
  Keep the receipt, since TCL's warranty starts at purchase. The model on the back and the software version in Settings, System, About are what TCL's support asks for. If a Roku TV shows a black screen with sound, try a power reset by unplugging for a minute.
• Picture modes and gaming
  Roku TVs let you change the picture mode from the options button on the remote. Movie mode gives a natural picture for films, while Game mode lowers input lag for consoles. If the picture looks dark, check that Energy saving is off in the picture settings, and try the other modes before changing individual sliders.
• Using the Roku home screen
  The Roku home screen lists channels in a grid, and the settings gear sits on the left menu. Move your most-used apps to the top by pressing the star button on a channel and choosing Move channel. If the TV is slow to start, check Settings, System, Power, for the fast TV start option, which keeps parts of the TV awake and speeds up the next start-up at a small cost in standby power.
