Garmin's flagship multisport watch — AMOLED or solar display options, full topographic maps, multi-band GPS, dive-capable, and (new for the fēnix 8) a built-in MICROPHONE and SPEAKER for voice and phone-call audio via the phone. Very long battery for a full-featured watch.
No cellular
Like all Garmin here, it has NO phone cellular — it connects through your phone over Bluetooth. So a 'cellular not working' symptom does not apply; standalone features use its own GPS and music, not a cell network. (inReach satellite messaging, where present, is separate from cellular.)
Maps & battery
Preloaded maps and music; battery life varies hugely with the always-on display, multi-band GPS and (on solar) sun exposure — a shorter runtime in max-accuracy GPS with AMOLED always-on is expected.

Can I make calls on my Garmin fēnix 8 without my phone?+

No — the fēnix 8 added a speaker and microphone so you can take and make calls and use voice commands, but the audio goes through your phone's connection over Bluetooth, not a cellular network in the watch. Garmin watches have no phone cellular, so the watch must be near your connected phone for calls. Away from the phone, you can still use its GPS, maps and stored music, but not phone calls.
