• Type — CORDED upright (no battery)
  A CORDED upright vacuum — it plugs into the wall, so there is no battery and no runtime limit; battery and charging symptoms do not apply to it. Strong constant suction from mains power.
• Ball steering & cleaner head
  It steers on a central ball, and the self-adjusting cleaner head raises/lowers for carpet vs hard floor. A head that seems to have lost suction on carpet may just be sealing to the floor (strong suction makes it hard to push) — use the correct floor setting.
• Filter & airway
  Washable filter(s) — wash per the manual and dry fully. 'No suction' is a blockage in the wand, hose, bin or cleaner head, or a clogged filter; clear the airway end to end.
• Bin
  0.45 gallons on the standard model and 0.55 gallons on the Extra.
• Detangling
  Hair removal vanes clear wrapped hair automatically, with a brush roll shut-off for hard floors.
• Filtration and warranty
  A washable post-motor filter that traps 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns, and a 5-year limited warranty.
• Identification
  The Dyson Ball Animal 3 is an upright with a label on the back or under the dust bin that shows its serial number. Dyson's support asks for it and for the color of the machine.
• Maintenance
  Empty the bin when it reaches the max line, wash the filters, and check the hose and the brush bar for clogs. The Ball design lets the machine turn easily, but hair tangles on the brush bar, so cut it away often.
• Warranty basics
  Dyson sells its machines with a limited warranty that begins at purchase. Keep the receipt and register the machine. Repairs may be offered by mail or at a service center, depending on where you live.
• Using the machine
  The Ball Animal 3 has a hose and a wand for above-floor cleaning, released by a catch. Turn it off before you swap tools. A clutch on the head releases the brush bar when it stalls, to protect the motor, so a machine that stops should be checked for a clog.
• Washing the filters
  The machine has a pre-motor filter and a post-motor filter that wash in cold water. Leave them to dry for twenty-four hours. A damp filter causes a smell and loss of suction, and Dyson advises against running the machine without them.
