Frigidaire washing machines: front-load faults and care

A door that will not lock needs a check for a caught item, an alignment look at the door and a reset by unplugging for a minute. A drain fault needs the pump filter and hose checked. Shaking is a levelling or load problem, and wet clothes after the spin come from an unbalanced load, a drain problem or too much detergent. Odors come from a damp seal, and a monthly cleaning cycle helps.

The label with the model and serial numbers is inside the door opening. Frigidaire's support asks for both. Use HE detergent and leave the door open after washing. Check the inlet hoses once a year for bulges and replace them if they are worn.

Several faults on a front-load washer are caused by the installation, not the washer. A washer that walks or thumps is on an uneven or springy floor; a washer that leaks may have a hose washer that is worn or a connection that was only hand tight; a washer that smells has a drain hose with no loop, which lets dirty water siphon back. If the problem began soon after delivery, photograph the connections and the feet and send the pictures with your question. The delivery team can usually correct the fault, and photographs help a technician decide whether a visit is needed.

A washer that has been in storage or moved needs its shipping bolts removed and its feet adjusted. Check the hoses for kinks behind the machine and that the drain hose is secured at the standpipe. These checks take a few minutes and solve many first-week complaints.

Frigidaire's front-loaders have a reputation for being simple to live with, and most of the faults on them follow from water, balance and the door. Always check the water taps and the hose screens first, then the load size, then the pump filter. A washer that has been installed in a closet should have its door left open to prevent odors, and a gasket that has a smell can be cleaned with a diluted bleach solution as the manual describes.
