Chamberlain and LiftMaster garage door opener error codes: learn-button LED flashes code 1-flash-broken-or-disconnected-safety-sensor-wire

A broken or disconnected wire to a safety reversing sensor. The Chamberlain Group groups 1, 2 and 4 flashes as safety sensor errors: the opener will not close the door and the light bulbs blink 10 times, and one or both of the LEDs on the safety reversing sensors do not glow steadily. It notes that any opener or replacement logic board made after 2022 no longer has the bulb-blinking feature.

Look at the two LEDs on the safety reversing sensors and note whether they glow steadily.

The Chamberlain Group's steps: inspect the sensor wires for a short, a disconnected or broken wire, and reversed black and white wires. If the home is prewired, remove the wires from behind the wall next to the sensors and check for loose or broken wires. Check the wires at the opener by lightly pulling on them, and verify white wires from the sensors are at the #2 or white terminal and white/black wires at the #3 or gray terminal.

Chamberlain and LiftMaster garage door opener error codes: learn-button LED flashes code 2-flashes-shorted-safety-sensor-wire-or-reversed-wires

A wire to a safety reversing sensor is shorted out, or the black and white wires are reversed.

Check whether the black and white sensor wires are reversed at the sensors or at the opener.

The Chamberlain Group's steps for the safety-sensor group: inspect the sensor wires for a short, a disconnected or broken wire, and reversed black and white wires, repair or replace them, and verify the white wires are on the #2 or white terminal and the white/black wires on the #3 or gray terminal at the opener and the sensors.

Chamberlain and LiftMaster garage door opener error codes: learn-button LED flashes code 3-flashes-door-control-error

A door control related error: the LED or screen on the door control is not lit.

Look at whether the LED or screen on the door control is lit.

The Chamberlain Group's steps: inspect the door control wires for a short, such as a staple in the wire, and replace as needed. To test, remove the door control from the wall, disconnect the wires from its back and touch them together: if the opener activates, replace the door control; if it does not, disconnect the wires from the motor unit and short across the red and white terminals with a jumper wire, and if the opener then activates, replace the door control wires. These steps do not work on Security+ 2.0 openers, and no wire test is needed if the LED or screen is on but not working, in which case replace the door control.

Chamberlain and LiftMaster garage door opener error codes: learn-button LED flashes code 4-flashes-safety-sensor-misaligned

The safety reversing sensor's sending LED glows steadily and the receiving light is dim or flashing, which means the sensors are slightly misaligned.

Look at the receiving sensor's light and whether it glows steadily.

The Chamberlain Group's steps: loosen the wing nut on the receiving sensor, clean the lens, realign the sensor until it glows steadily, tighten the wing nut and secure the brackets, and verify the door track is firmly secured to the wall and does not move.

Chamberlain and LiftMaster garage door opener error codes: learn-button LED flashes code 5-flashes-no-rpm-detected-mechanical-stoppage

The opener is not detecting any RPM (rotations per minute) during the first second of operation, which typically means a mechanical stoppage.

Note whether the opener is operating normally, humming for a few seconds, humming for longer, or making a single click with no movement.

The Chamberlain Group's steps: if the opener is operating normally, unplug it for 5 seconds and reapply power to reset the code. If it hums for less than 5 seconds and then turns off, check in order the balance of the door (disengage the door from the opener, lift it 3 to 4 feet by hand and release: if it closes forcefully or is hard to move, call a trained door technician), a broken spring above the door, manual locks left engaged on the door, the trolley stuck against the rail stop bolt, a bad capacitor, stripped gears or a bad motor, or a motor that has overheated (allow 45 minutes to cool during a new installation).

If it hums 5 to 30 seconds, check door balance, a disconnected trolley, a broken chain or belt sprocket, stripped gears or the RPM sensor. For a single click with no movement on a DC unit check a disconnected wiring harness, and on an AC unit an overheated motor (wait 45 minutes), a defective logic board or a defective transformer.

Chamberlain and LiftMaster garage door opener error codes: learn-button LED flashes code 6-flashes-motor-circuit-failure

Motor circuit failure.

Note the flash count and the model number on the motor unit label.

The Chamberlain Group's instruction is to replace the receiver logic board, and it notes that the motor itself rarely fails, so replacing the logic board is the fix rather than the motor.
