GE dehumidifier code 88
GE states an 88 display when power is connected is NORMAL and remains until you set the relative humidity. It does not indicate a problem.
Set the relative humidity target and watch the display change.
Nothing to repair. Set the humidity level as the model directs.
GE dehumidifier code E0, E01
GE states models with a built-in drain pump display this when set to Pump Out Mode but water is not being pumped out while running. GE notes E01 appears on 70-pint built-in-pump models.
Check that the pump hose is properly installed on the dehumidifier and the bucket is seated securely.
Reseat the pump hose and bucket, then reset by unplugging for 30 seconds and plugging back in.

GE dehumidifier displays: what is normal and what needs action
Not every number on a GE dehumidifier is a fault. An 88 that appears when power is first connected is normal: it is a start-up display that stays until you set a humidity target, and it does not mean anything is wrong. The codes that do matter are E0 and E01 and P1, which GE ties to the pump-out feature on models that can pump water out: the unit is set to pump but the water has nowhere to go, so check that the hose is attached and not kinked, that its end is lower than the pump outlet allows or at the drain, and that the pump mode is the one you meant to choose.
If the code stays after the hose is straight, unplug the unit briefly and restart it.
A bucket-full indication is a different thing: empty the bucket, seat it firmly and wait for the unit to restart. A code that comes straight back after a restart means the unit should be looked at under warranty, so keep the model number and the code handy.
Is the 88 on my GE dehumidifier an error?
No. It is the display at power-up and clears when you set the humidity level you want.
What does P1 or E01 mean on a GE dehumidifier?
The unit is set to pump water out and the water is not leaving. Check the hose for kinks and a clear outlet, then restart the unit.
