GE dishwasher code 1H, 2H, 3H

GE says a number followed by H, for example 1H, means the dishwasher is in Delay Start mode. It is not a fault.

Note that a Delay Start was set.

GE points to its guide on the Delay Start option for how to use or cancel it.

• Delay Start is on: A number plus H such as 1H, 2H or 3H shows. GE says a number plus H means the dishwasher is in Delay Start mode
• A delay chosen by accident: The digit and H appear after the delay pad was pressed and the dishwasher does not start. Cancel the delay as the steps describe and press Start
• A delay left over from a previous load: The dishwasher waited hours before starting and nobody remembers setting it. Check the display for the number of hours left and cancel it if you do not want it

The number is the hours remaining before the wash starts, from one to fourteen hours depending on the model.

The control counts down automatically; unlatching or opening the door does not cancel Delay Start.

Look at the digit beside the H; it is the number of hours left before the cycle begins, and pressing the delay pad again cycles through the options.

GE dishwasher code C4

GE defines C4 as the machine having filled twice after a power failure, with the float switch stuck or failed, or a clogged drain or sump.

Touch Start and then Cancel/Reset.

GE's solution: tap on the float cover to un-stick the float, which is the plastic cover that looks like an upside-down cup in the front left corner of the floor of the dishwasher, and check the sump area at the back bottom of the tub for debris.

• A stuck float switch: The dishwasher filled twice after a power failure, which points to a stuck float switch. Tap on the float cover, the plastic upside-down cup in the front left corner of the tub floor, to unstick the float
• A clogged sump: Debris covers the sump at the back of the tub. Check the sump area, which looks like an upside-down silverware basket, for debris
• A clogged drain: Water is slow to leave the tub, which points to a clogged drain. Clear the drain and disposer, and write down the result before moving to the next check

GE dishwasher code C5

GE defines C5 as the pump-out time being too short.

Make sure the water supply is turned on.

GE's solution: try the same cycle again, and tap on the float cover, the upside-down cup in the front left corner of the floor of the dishwasher, to un-stick the float.

• A water supply that is turned off: The dishwasher barely fills before the code, which points to a water supply that is turned off. Make sure the water supply is turned on
• A stuck float: The float cover does not move, which points to a stuck float. Tap on the float cover to unstick the float
• A kinked or pinched inlet hose: C5 appears after the dishwasher was pushed back into place and the fill is slow. Pull the dishwasher forward and check the inlet hose has no kink

Make sure the water supply is turned on.

Try the same cycle again.

What does C5 mean on a GE dishwasher? The pump out time is too short.

What should I try? Confirm the water is on, repeat the cycle and tap the float cover.

Do I need to pull the dishwasher out to check the hose? Only if the supply is on and the float moves freely; otherwise the hose is the next free check.

GE dishwasher code C6

GE defines C6 as the water temperature being too low.

Run the sink faucet next to the dishwasher before starting it, to purge cold water from the line.

GE says the water coming into the dishwasher should be at least 120 degrees F. Its solution: run the faucet beforehand, adjust the water heater temperature, do not use the washing machine or take showers while the dishwasher runs, and use the dishwasher's options that make it run longer so the water has time to heat.

• Incoming water below 120 degrees F: The tap water near the dishwasher runs lukewarm, which points to incoming water below 120 degrees F. GE says the water coming into the dishwasher should be at least 120 degrees F
• Other hot water demand: A washing machine or shower ran during the cycle. Do not use the washing machine or take showers while the dishwasher runs
• A water heater set too low: The heater dial is low, which points to a water heater set too low. Adjust the water heater temperature, and write down the result before moving to the next check

Run the faucet adjacent to the dishwasher before starting so cold water clears from the line.

Adjust the water heater temperature and do not run the washer or showers during the dishwasher cycle.

Use options on the dishwasher that make it run longer and add more heat.

GE dishwasher code C7

GE defines C7 as the dishwasher's water temperature sensor circuit having become inoperative.

Disconnect the power at the circuit breaker for about 30 seconds.

GE's solution: after about 30 seconds at the breaker, reset the dishwasher. If the problem persists, contact service.

• A temperature sensor circuit that is inoperative: C7 shows and the cycle stops, which points to a temperature sensor circuit that is inoperative. GE says the dishwasher's water temperature sensor circuit has become inoperative
• A one-off fault after a power interruption: C7 appears once after an outage and does not return on the next cycle. Switch the breaker off for a minute, restore it and run a full cycle to see whether C7 returns
• A loose sensor connection: C7 returns on every cycle even after a reset and the water temperature is normal. Only a technician should check the connector; tell them C7 returns on every cycle

Disconnect the power at the circuit breaker for about 30 seconds and then reset the dishwasher.

Start a cycle to see if the code returns.

If the problem persists, schedule a repair.

Write down the cycle and the stage where C7 appears, since a fault at the start points at the sensor and one late in the cycle points at heating.

GE dishwasher code C8

GE defines C8 as the detergent cup being blocked from opening fully.

Remove the obstruction, for example silverware or a pan.

GE's solution: remove the obstruction, close and latch the door and wait 30 seconds for the cup to open.

• A blocked detergent cup: Silverware, a pan or a tall handle touches the cup. Remove the obstruction such as silverware or a pan
• Soap residue or a bound pod: Old detergent is caked in the cup or a pod binds the cover. Wipe out old detergent and line up pods properly in the opening
• A timer or control locked up: The cup never opens even with nothing blocking, which points to a timer or control locked up. GE points to its detergent cup articles for mechanical or electronic controls

Take out silverware, pans or tall pot handles touching the detergent cup.

Close and latch the door and wait 30 seconds for the cup to open.

Wipe out old detergent, use fresh loose powder and make sure pods or tablets are not binding the cover.

Is it normal for a flip-up cover to touch the rack? Yes; it opens to about 45 degrees against the upper rack.

GE dishwasher code Cup Open

GE says Cup Open means the detergent cup has not been closed, as a reminder to add detergent and latch the cup closed.

Add detergent and latch the cup closed.

GE says the cycle will not start while it shows, but you can override by pressing the Start pad again without opening the door. If it persists, contact service.

• A detergent cup that was not closed: Cup Open shows and the cycle will not start. GE says it is a reminder to add detergent and latch the cup closed
• A latch that does not catch: The cup closes but then springs back open again. Press the cup closed until it clicks and see whether it stays shut
• Caked detergent holding the cup open: The cup is sticky and detergent has hardened around the latch. Wipe out the cup with a damp cloth and dry it before adding detergent

Slide a sliding cover forward, turn the handle on a round cover, or press a square flip-up cover down until it snaps.

Add detergent, then latch the cup closed.

You can override by pressing the Start pad again without opening the door; if the problem persists, schedule a repair.

Remove hardened detergent from the cup and around the latch with a damp cloth, then dry it so the latch can close cleanly.

What does Cup Open mean? The detergent cup has not been closed.

Can I start anyway? Yes, by pressing Start again without opening the door.

How do I close each cup type? Slide, turn the handle or press down.

GE dishwasher code PF

GE says a PF code indicates a power failure to the dishwasher.

Select the desired cycle and options again.

GE's solution: press the Start pad and the dishwasher will function normally.

• A power failure to the dishwasher: PF shows after an outage or a tripped breaker. GE says PF indicates that there has been a power failure to the dishwasher
• A tripped breaker or switched-off supply: PF shows after the dishwasher lost power and the panel was dark. Check the breaker and any wall switch feeding the dishwasher
• A brief outage from the utility: PF appeared after a storm or a flicker and other clocks also reset. Check whether other clocks in the house were reset and whether the dishwasher runs after you clear PF

Select the desired cycle and options.

Press the Start pad and the dishwasher will function normally.

If PF repeats without an outage, check the breaker and outlet.

Look at the breaker and the wall switch that feed the dishwasher and confirm the panel powers up before you restart the cycle.

GE dishwasher code PrS

GE says PrS indicates the pressure sensor is sending an invalid signal to the control, so the cycle cannot start or will cancel.

Note the code and whether the cycle starts.

GE says this is most likely a harness or sensor issue and that service is recommended.

• An invalid pressure sensor signal: PrS shows and the cycle cancels, which points to an invalid pressure sensor signal. GE says the pressure sensor is sending an invalid signal to the control
• A harness or sensor issue: The code returns on every start, which points to a harness or sensor issue. GE says it is most likely a harness or sensor issue and recommends service
• Suds or trapped air confusing the pressure reading: PrS appears after too much detergent or a non-dishwasher soap was used. Look for suds in the tub and let it drain, then rerun with proper dishwasher detergent

Disconnect power for a minute or two, which GE says sometimes clears a code.

Start a cycle to see whether the code returns.

Pressure sensor; harness.

What does PrS mean? The pressure sensor is sending an invalid signal to the control.

Can I start a cycle? You cannot start a cycle, or it will cancel.

What is likely? A harness or sensor issue.

Can hand-washing soap cause PrS? Yes; it foams heavily and can upset the water level reading, so use only dishwasher detergent.
