GE states: check the icemaker for proper operation.

Check whether ice is being produced and whether the icemaker arm or switch is off.

Restore the water supply or switch position; arrange service if the icemaker still does not run.

  • An icemaker that needs checking: CI shows on the dispenser display, which points to an icemaker that needs checking. GE says to check the icemaker for proper operation
  • An icemaker switched off or blocked: The feeler arm is up or ice is jammed. Confirm the icemaker is on and the ice bin is seated
  • Ice jammed in the mold: The icemaker has stopped and cubes are frozen together in one lump. Remove the bin, look for a lump of ice and thaw it as the manual directs

Make sure the icemaker is switched on and the feeler arm or on/off switch is in the on position.

Confirm the ice bin is seated and ice is not jammed.

GE states the defrost system has not operated properly in the last 24 hours. NOTE: lower-case dE is a DIFFERENT code from upper-case DE (demo mode) — read the display carefully.

Look for heavy frost build-up on the rear freezer wall or reduced airflow.

Arrange defrost-system service; repeated manual defrosting masks the fault rather than fixing it.

  • A defrost system that has not run: Lowercase dE shows and frost builds up, which points to a defrost system that has not run. GE says the defrost system has not operated properly in the last 24 hours
  • Frost from a door left open: dE appeared after a door was left ajar and frost has built up on the back wall. Check the door seals close flat and thaw the frost as the manual directs
  • A loose defrost connection: dE returns after a full thaw and a restart. Only a technician should check the connection; tell them dE returned after a full thaw

Disconnect power for a minute or two and reconnect, which GE says can clear the code.

GE directs unplugging the refrigerator for a minute or two, then plugging it back in. If DE remains, GE asks you to contact them with the model number.

  • Demo mode is on: The lights and controls work but the refrigerator is warm. GE says Demo mode enables normal light and controls while disabling the cooling system
  • The demo sequence entered by pressing panel keys: DE appeared after two panel keys were held together while cleaning. Unplug and restore power as the steps describe and see whether the mode clears
  • A floor model or returned unit still in demo mode: The refrigerator has never cooled since it was first plugged in, though the panel and light work normally. Open the door and feel the interior; if it is warm, follow the steps to leave demo mode

  • An interruption of power: PF shows after an outage or a tripped breaker. GE says the power to the refrigerator has been interrupted
  • A tripped breaker or switched-off outlet: PF appears after the refrigerator lost power and the display was dark. Check the breaker and the outlet and confirm the display powers up
  • A brief outage from the utility: PF appeared after a storm or a flicker and other clocks also reset. Check whether other clocks in the house were reset and clear PF

Wait until power is steady, then disconnect power for a minute or two and reconnect if the code stays.

Check frozen food for thawing and discard anything that has warmed above safe temperature.

If PF repeats with no outage, check the outlet, plug and breaker.

Feel the food and the air in both sections; if both stayed cold, the outage was brief and the food is likely still safe.
