Roborock Support Center — What should I do if the robot alerts: Error 42 Maintenance brush jammed?
Roborock error 42: the maintenance brush
Error 42 on some Roborock models refers to the maintenance brush. Turn the robot over, remove the brush and clear hair and thread from the brush and its housing, then refit it firmly. Check that the brush spins freely by hand. A worn brush should be replaced, and the app shows the brush's remaining life.
Restart the robot after cleaning, and run a short clean to check the error does not return. If it continues with a clean, freely turning brush, the brush motor or its connector may need service from Roborock.
Roborock robots with a maintenance brush clean it with the dock, but hair can still wind round the shaft and jam it. Make a habit of checking the brush weekly, cutting hair away with the tool, and replacing the brush when the bristles are worn. The brush is a consumable part sold for each model, and a spare costs little. Keep the dock's cleaning tray clear and empty the water tank as the app prompts.
A jammed maintenance brush is most often caused by hair and thread wound tightly round the shaft, but a worn or deformed brush can also bind. Check the brush housing for a small object such as a hairpin, and spin the brush by hand to feel for rough spots. If the brush is worn, replace it; Roborock sells brushes for each model, and the part name and number are in the app's maintenance section.
After clearing a jam, run a short clean and listen for the brush. If it jams again at the same place, check the floor for a cord or a fringe that the robot keeps running over. Roborock's app lets you set no-go zones around such places, which protects the brush and saves repeated errors.
How do I clean a Roborock brush?
Remove it, cut away hair and thread with scissors or the cleaning tool, shake out debris and refit it.
