Whirlpool publishes a page for each of these but states no cause

Write down the code and when it appeared.

Power-cycle the dryer and arrange service if it returns.

• A one-off control fault: The code appears once and does not return after a reset. Turn the breaker off for one minute (five minutes for 0E), restore power and start a timed dry cycle
• A recurring control fault: The code returns again straight after the one-minute reset. Record when it appears each time and arrange service
• A code Whirlpool publishes without a cause: Whirlpool's page lists only the breaker reset and no cause. Treat any specific cause you find elsewhere as unverified

Write down the exact display and where in the cycle it appeared before you reset.

Whirlpool says to turn the breaker off for one minute (5 minutes for the 0E page), turn it on, start a timed dry cycle and monitor the dryer for one minute.

Whirlpool publishes no cause for these codes, so a code that returns is for a technician.

If the code returns, write down whether it appears at power-up, in the first minutes or late in the cycle, so a technician can start from the pattern instead of guessing a part.

How long should the breaker stay off? One minute for most; the 0E page says 5 minutes.

Should I replace a part? No part is named; a guessed board is the costliest way to be wrong.

Is 0E the same as OE? Whirlpool writes the code as 0E with a zero on its page; check the character on your display and give the technician exactly what you see.

Why does 0E ask for five minutes? Whirlpool's page for 0E says to turn the breaker off for 5 minutes, while its other reset-only pages say one minute; follow the interval on the page for your code.

The door is not completely closed and latched

Push the door in to engage the latch.

Check both latches on a model with two, then reset power. Power reset only (1 minute).

• A door that is shut but not latched: The door looks closed but the dryer will not run and shows ERR. Push on the door to engage the latch, as Whirlpool says
• One of two latches not engaged: The dryer has an upper and a lower latch. Whirlpool says both latches must be secure for the dryer to run on models that have two
• A control state that needs a reset: The door is latched firmly and the same code stays on. Turn the breaker off for one minute, restore power and start a timed dry cycle

Whirlpool says ERR appears when the dryer door has not been completely closed and latched, and the dryer will not run until it is. Push on the door to engage the latch or latches.

Some models have an upper and a lower latch; both must be secure for the dryer to run.

Turn the breaker off for one minute, turn it on, start a timed dry cycle and monitor the dryer for one minute to make sure the code does not return.

Start a short timed dry cycle and confirm the door stays latched while the drum turns; a door that pops open or a code that returns points at a worn latch that needs service.

The door looks shut; why ERR? It may look shut but not be latched; push on it to engage the latch.

The main control board, or the user interface, reported a fault

Touch Power to clear the code and try a timed dry cycle.

Unplug the dryer, check the control board wiring, and replace the board only if the code returns.

• A one-off control fault a reset clears: The code appears once and a timed dry cycle runs normally afterward. Touch Power, select a cycle and hold Start/Pause, or turn the breaker off for one minute
• Loose wiring on the main control board or the user interface: The code appears after the console was opened or the dryer moved. Check the wiring connections on the main control board and the user interface control and reconnect any loose wire
• A failed main control board: The code returns again straight after the one-minute reset. The tables say to replace the main electronic control board if the code returns after restoring power
• The wrong control board for the model (F1 E3): The code appeared right after a new board was fitted. The 2015 Cabrio table says to order and install the correct board for the model
• A motor relay stuck on the board (F1 E1, 2015 Cabrio): The dryer behaves oddly at the same point each time. The table says to replace the electronic control board

Whirlpool's pages say F1 E3, F1 E4 and F1 E5 point to an issue with the control unit or its wiring; touch Power, select a cycle and hold Start/Pause, and if that fails unplug the dryer (or use the one-minute breaker reset).

The Duet Hybrid table says to unplug the dryer and check the wiring connections on the main control board and the user interface control, reconnect any loose wire, plug the dryer in again, and if the code returns replace the main control board, then the user interface control if the problem persists.

The Cabrio and Duet tables give a five-minute unplug for F-01 and F:01; if the code reappears, replace the main electronic control board.

For F1 E3 the 2015 Cabrio table says the code appears when the wrong electronic control board is installed; order the right one for the model.

How long should the dryer be unplugged? Whirlpool says one minute at the breaker; the Cabrio and Duet tables say five minutes. Longer does no harm.

Do I replace the board immediately? No; the tables put the wiring and the reset first.

A key on the user interface reads as stuck, or the user interface has failed

Press every pad and check that none is stuck.

Replace the user interface control if a key stays stuck.

• A stuck key on the user interface: One pad never releases and the code appears soon after power-up. Press each pad firmly and then release it fully
• Liquid or residue under the keypad: The panel was wiped down or splashed with liquid recently. Dry the panel thoroughly with the dryer unplugged from power
• A failed user interface (F2 E4, F2 E5): No key is stuck and the same code stays on the display. The 2015 Cabrio table calls F2 E4 or F2 E5 a user interface software error and says to replace the user interface control

The tables say a stuck button on the keypad causes F2 E1 (and F:02 on the Duet, which has two user interface assemblies): free it, and replace the user interface control (or the assembly with the stuck button) if you cannot.

Whirlpool says these codes mean an issue with the user interface or its wiring: touch Power, select a cycle and hold Start/Pause, and if that fails unplug the dryer or use the one-minute breaker reset.

For an internal failure the 2015 Cabrio table says to replace the user interface control, since the software error is inside it.

The main control board and the user interface lost communication

Check the harness between the main control board and the user interface.

Replace a damaged harness, then the user interface, and the main board last.

• A loose harness between the main control board and the user interface: The code appears after the console was opened or the dryer moved. With the dryer unplugged, check the harness between the boards and reconnect any loose wire
• A damaged harness: A wire is chafed or a connector is cracked or bent. Replace the harness if it is damaged in any way
• A failed user interface control: The harness is sound and the same code stays on the display. The tables say to replace the user interface control next
• A failed main control board: A new user interface does not clear the code. Replace the main control board last, after the other parts

Whirlpool names a communication error, points to the main control board, the user interface or the wiring, and asks you to turn the breaker off for one minute, restore power and start a timed dry cycle.

The tables say to unplug the dryer and check the harness between the main control board and the user interface (on the Duet also between the two user interface assemblies). Reconnect loose wires and replace a damaged harness.

Replace the user interface control (or the failed assembly on the Duet, F72 to F78) and, if the problem persists, the main control board.
