Whirlpool over-the-range microwave code E03, SE, F2E1, F9Q1, F6E0, F7, F1E1
The keypad, touch pad, relay control board or appliance control board reported a fault
Reset the power and try the keypad.
Arrange service for the board or keypad Whirlpool names. Power reset only (1 minute).
- The keypad reported a problem to the control board (E03, SE): Keys respond oddly or the display shows E03 or SE. Whirlpool says the keypad (user interface) reported a problem to the control board, or its wiring is at fault
- The user interface or touch pad (F2E1, F9Q1): The pads do not respond and the oven cannot execute the function. Whirlpool names the user interface, keypad or touch pad and its wiring
- The relay control board (F1E1): The oven cannot execute the function you selected on the panel. Whirlpool says the oven could not execute the function and names the relay control board or its wiring
- The appliance control board (F6E0, F7): The oven cannot execute the function and no keypad fault is named. Whirlpool names the appliance control board or its wiring
Whirlpool gives a one-minute breaker reset: turn the breaker off for one minute, restore power and monitor the product for one minute.
After the reset, touch each pad once; a pad that does not respond is the fault Whirlpool describes.
Whirlpool publishes no repair beyond the reset, so a code that returns is for a technician.
E03, SE, F2E1, F9Q1, F6E0, F7, F1E1.
Keypad or user interface; touch pad; relay control board; appliance control board.
None; arrange service.
What do E03 and SE mean? Whirlpool says the keypad (user interface) reported a problem to the control board.
Do not open the microwave; it has a high-voltage capacitor that can hold a charge after it is unplugged
Unplug the microwave or switch off its breaker and arrange service for a code that returns
Whirlpool over-the-range microwave code E11, E12, E21, E22, E61, E62, E63, F3C, F4E1, F8E5, AccuPop Fail
A sensor (gas, thermal, oven, cavity thermistor, exhaust air or AccuPop) reported a fault
Reset the power and note whether the sensor code returns.
Arrange service for the sensor Whirlpool names; do not open the microwave. Power reset only (1 minute).
- A gas sensor that reported a problem (E11, E12): The sensor-cook feature fails and the display shows E11 or E12. Whirlpool says the gas sensor reported a problem to the control board, or that there is a problem with the gas sensor or its wiring
- A thermal or oven sensor circuit that is open or shorted (E21, E22, E61, E62, E63): The display shows one of these and the oven will not run a heated function. Whirlpool says the thermal sensor or the oven sensor circuit reported an open (E21, E61) or a shorted (E22, E62) condition to the control board
- The cavity temperature thermistor or the thermistor (F3C, F4E1): The convection or heated functions do not run at all. Whirlpool names the cavity temperature thermistor for F3C and lists it with the wiring
- The exhaust air temperature sensor or the AccuPop sensor (F8E5, AccuPop Fail): The oven could not execute the function you selected. Whirlpool says the oven could not execute the function and names the exhaust air temperature sensor for F8E5 and the AccuPop sensor for AccuPop Fail
Whirlpool gives a one-minute breaker reset for these codes: turn the breaker off for one minute, restore power, and monitor the product for one minute to make sure the code does not return.
The code tells you which sensor the control cannot read; write it down for the technician, since Whirlpool's pages list the sensor, the appliance control board and the wiring for each.
Whirlpool publishes no repair beyond the reset, and a microwave has no customer-safe test for these sensors, so a code that returns is for a technician.
E11, E12, E21, E22, E61, E62, E63, F3C, F4E1, F8E5, AccuPop Fail.
Gas sensor; thermal sensor; oven sensor; cavity temperature thermistor; exhaust air temperature sensor; AccuPop sensor; appliance control board.
What does AccuPop Fail mean? Whirlpool says the oven could not execute the function and names the AccuPop sensor.
Can I test the sensor myself? Whirlpool gives no test; do not open a microwave.
Does this apply to Maytag and KitchenAid microwaves? Yes, on the same platform.
Do not open the microwave; it has a high-voltage capacitor that can hold a charge after it is unplugged
Unplug the microwave or switch off its breaker and arrange service for a sensor code that returns
Whirlpool over-the-range microwave code E13, E23, E24
The convection oven did not preheat, did not reach preheat temperature within 30 minutes, or overheated
Let the oven cool and reset the power.
Arrange service; the heater, the sensors and the control board are involved. Power reset only (1 minute).
- The oven did not preheat correctly (E13): A convection or preheat function stops early with E13. Whirlpool says the oven did not preheat correctly and names the appliance control board or its wiring
- The oven did not reach preheat temperature within 30 minutes (E23): A preheat runs a long time and then fails. Whirlpool names the heater, the appliance control board or the wiring
- An overheat condition of 500 degrees Fahrenheit (E24): The oven shuts off during a heated function and shows E24. Whirlpool says the oven reached 500 degrees F (260 degrees C) and names the thermal sensor, the gas sensor, the appliance control board or the wiring
Whirlpool gives a one-minute breaker reset: turn the breaker off for one minute, restore power and monitor the product for one minute.
If the code does not return on a short function, the fault was a one-off; if it returns at the same point, note where.
Whirlpool publishes no repair beyond the reset, and the heater, sensors and control board are not customer-serviceable in a microwave.
E13, E23, E24.
Heater; thermal sensor; gas sensor; appliance control board.
Is it safe to keep cooking? Not after E24; stop and arrange service.
Unplug the microwave or switch off its breaker and let it cool if E24 shows, and do not run a heated function again until it is serviced
Do not open the microwave; the internal parts include a high-voltage capacitor
Whirlpool over-the-range microwave code FC E1, FC E2, FC E3, FC E7, FC E8, Registration Error
The microwave could not connect to the router, or registration failed
Check the router and the SAID number.
Reset the power, then check the app details. Whirlpool documents these checks for this code: re-set your wireless router; and does another Wi-Fi capable device operate correctly.
- The microwave cannot reach the router (FC E1, FC E2, FC E3): The microwave shows a connection code and the app cannot see it. Whirlpool lists a connection time-out, poor signal strength, a failed router, the Wi-Fi module or the wiring
- No link to the router or internet (FC E7): The microwave did not connect to your router at all. Check the router, then reset the microwave, as Whirlpool says
- A registration mistake (FC E8, Registration Error): The code appears while you register the microwave in the app. Whirlpool says the SAID number may have been entered wrongly or the wrong appliance type or model chosen
Whirlpool says the appliance could not connect to the router for FC E1 and FC E2; confirm the router is on, in range and online.
Turn the breaker off for one minute, restore power and monitor the product for one minute.
Whirlpool says to check that your home network is connected to the internet, that the phone or tablet is online, that no firewall blocks the appliance, that the SAID number was entered correctly, and that the right appliance type and model were chosen.
Whirlpool specifies a 1 minute power interruption for this code, not an arbitrary one.
FC E1, FC E2, FC E3, FC E7, FC E8, Registration Error.
Wi-Fi module; wiring.
None; the SAID number from the app.
What do FC E1, FC E2 and FC E3 mean? The appliance could not connect to the router: a connection time-out, poor signal, a failed router, the Wi-Fi module or the wiring.
What does FC E7 mean? The appliance did not connect to your router.
What does FC E8 mean? A registration error, usually a wrong SAID number or a wrong appliance type or model.
Will the microwave still cook? Wi-Fi codes concern the connected features; the microwave is a separate system.
Unplug the microwave or switch off its breaker before you touch the wiring behind it
Call Whirlpool's connected appliance line for a module fault instead of opening the microwave

Whirlpool microwave error codes
Whirlpool's over-the-range microwaves show F codes and E codes for sensor, keypad, magnetron and door switch faults, and this directory lists them. A microwave is a high-voltage appliance, and most of the parts behind these codes are not for owners to touch, so the pages concentrate on what you can check from the front.
Unplug the microwave for a minute to clear a one-off. Check that the door closes and that nothing blocks the latch. A sensor code may clear after a reset. Do not remove the cover, since the capacitor can hold a dangerous charge even when unplugged. A code that returns needs a technician.
The model and serial numbers are on a label inside the door frame or on the side. Whirlpool's Product Help pages are the source. The pages note where codes are shared with sister brands.
Over-the-range microwaves also contain a vent fan and a light, and some codes concern them rather than the cooking. A vent fan that runs by itself may be set to turn on when the cooktop below is hot, as a protection. If the display shows a code and the microwave does not heat, listen for the hum of the magnetron when it should be cooking, and note whether the turntable and light work. These details help a technician decide whether the fault is in the high voltage circuit or the control.
An over-the-range microwave combines a microwave oven, a vent fan and lights. The codes in this table may concern any of them, as well as the keypad and the sensor that detects steam for sensor cooking. A microwave that powers up but does not heat has a different fault from one that is dead, and a vent fan that does not run points elsewhere again. Note which functions work when you describe the problem.
A microwave oven has a door with several interlock switches, and a fault in one can stop the oven from starting. If the oven will not start with the door closed, check that nothing, such as a plate, a seal or food, is in the door seal and that the latch moves freely. Do not attempt to bypass an interlock. The oven also checks a thermal fuse and a temperature sensor, and a code may name one of them.
The vent hood on an over-the-range unit depends on a mounting plate and a duct. Grease filters should be washed monthly, since a clogged filter reduces airflow and can trigger overheating of the fan motor. If the unit recirculates air rather than venting outside, replace the charcoal filter as the manual says. Do not leave cooking unattended on the cooktop below, since steam and heat rise into the microwave.
Sensor cooking is a feature that many owners misuse and then suspect a fault. The microwave measures steam from the food to decide when it is done, so the food must be uncovered or vented as the manual says, the door must be shut firmly and the oven should not be opened until the time shows. If you start a sensor cycle with a cold oven that has just been used, the readings can be wrong, and the oven may show a sensor message. Wait a few minutes and try again before you assume a part has failed.
Is it safe to open a microwave?
No, the capacitor can hold a charge even when it is unplugged.
What can I check myself?
The door, the latch and a power reset.
Why does the vent fan start by itself?
Many models turn it on to protect the unit from heat from the cooktop.
