My Canon PIXMA TS6420a says a cartridge is empty right after I installed it.+
First confirm the orange protective tape and cap were fully removed from the new cartridge and it clicked into place. A brand-new cartridge read as empty can also be a contact issue — remove and reseat it, wiping the contacts gently. If you refilled or used a third-party cartridge, the printer may not read its level (or may reject it). Genuine, properly-seated Canon cartridges resolve most 'empty when new' errors; a nozzle check confirms it is actually printing.
