Samsung dishwasher makes grinding, humming, knocking or squealing noises

Samsung dishwasher makes grinding, humming, knocking or squealing noises: identify whether the sound occurs during fill, circulation or drain. Scoped to DW80B7070*.

Samsung's troubleshooting table for the DW80B7070 lists five noise causes. A sound when the dispenser cover opens and the drain pump runs in an early stage is normal operation. A dishwasher that is not level is noisy: ensure it is level. A foreign object such as a screw or plastic piece in the pump chamber needs a technician. A chopping sound means a nozzle is bumping against dishes: rearrange the dishes. Also a nozzle that will not rotate smoothly because a dish or pot blocks it: rotate the nozzles by hand after loading to check.

A sound when the dispenser cover opens and the drain pump runs early in a cycle is normal. A chopping sound is a nozzle bumping dishes.

  2. Rotate the nozzles by hand

    Reversible

After loading, turn each nozzle by hand to check whether any dish or pot interferes with it. Rearrange the dishes.

Ensure the dishwasher is level; install it on an uncarpeted floor that can support its weight.

  4. Clean the drain pump

    Reversible

If you hear an abnormal noise from the drain pump, remove the lower rack and the micro filter, take off the drain-pump cover by pushing its handle and lifting, check the impeller and remove foreign matter, then press the cover down until it clicks.

  5. Stop if it grinds

    Reversible

A screw or plastic piece in the pump chamber must be removed by a qualified service technician.

Nozzle care
To clean the upper nozzle, pull out the upper rack, turn the nozzle cap counterclockwise, remove and clean the nozzle, reinsert it, tighten the cap clockwise and check it rotates by hand. The lower nozzle pulls up out of the base and is pushed down until it clicks. Take care because nozzles may break when removed.
Sanitize option
Choosing Sanitize raises the final rinse to 163 F (73 C) for high-temperature sanitization; the Sanitize lamp blinks once the water passes 155 F (68 C) and stays lit until the option ends, and turns off when you open the door or press POWER. Samsung says the Normal cycle with Sanitize is NSF certified. Hi-Temp or a similar option raises the main wash temperature to help with tough baked-on food.
