Honda EU2200i generator code overload-alarm-indicator-blinking

Honda says a continuously blinking overload alarm indicator suggests an abnormality of the inverter unit.

Stop the generator and note that the fault is in the generator, not the load.

Honda's table for no power at the AC receptacles says that when the overload alarm indicator blinks, take the generator to an authorized Honda Power Equipment dealer or refer to the shop manual.

Honda EU2200i generator code overload-alarm-indicator-red

The generator is overloaded (in excess of 2.2 kVA), or there is a short circuit in a connected appliance. Honda says the indicator stays on and after about four seconds current to the connected appliances shuts off and the green output indicator goes off, though the engine keeps running.

Note whether the light stays on, and whether anything plugged in has a short circuit.

Honda's table says that with the output indicator off and the overload indicator on you should check the AC load and stop and restart the engine, and check the cooling air inlet and stop and restart. For a tripped AC circuit protector, check the load and reset the protector. A faulty power tool or appliance should be repaired or replaced.

Honda EU2200i indicator lights: what each pattern means and what to do

Honda's EU2200i inverter generator reports problems with indicator lights on its panel rather than numeric codes, so the pattern, the color and whether the engine is running or stopped all matter. The Oil Alert light comes on when the oil level is low and stops the engine so that it cannot run dry. The CO Alert light warns that carbon monoxide near the generator has reached a level that shut it down, and it must be taken seriously: never run the generator indoors, in a garage or near windows. Always stand the generator in open air at least a few meters from the house, with the exhaust pointing away from openings.

If the Output indicator is not green, the generator is overloaded or the inverter has tripped; unplug the load, switch the generator off for a minute and restart it with a lighter load. The pages below describe each light pattern. Keep the oil level topped up, use fresh fuel and store the generator with the fuel handled as the owner's manual says, since stale fuel is a common reason for an engine that will not start or runs unevenly.

Carbon monoxide is the hazard that deserves the most care. If the CO Alert light flashes, move to fresh air, do not restart the generator indoors and have any symptoms such as headache, dizziness or nausea checked at once. Keep a working battery carbon monoxide alarm in the home whenever a generator is in use, test it before you start, and place the generator where exhaust cannot be drawn in through doors, windows or vents.

Why did my generator stop with the Oil Alert light on?

The oil level was low and the engine shut itself off to protect the engine; check and top up the oil on level ground.

What should I do if the CO Alert light flashes?

Move to fresh air, keep the generator outdoors and away from openings, and do not restart it indoors.
