Maytag range error codes

Maytag range codes as Maytag Product Help lists them, each with its meaning and the first safe check.

A Maytag electric or gas range shows its faults two ways: an F code with a number, which names a failed circuit, and a plain message on the display, which is usually a state rather than a fault. This page lists the codes and messages Maytag documents, each with its meaning and the first check, and it separates the ones that clear themselves from the ones that need a part.

Maytag range and oven codes: F-codes, E-codes and messages

Start by writing down the exact display and by finding the model number, usually on the frame behind the oven door or on the frame of the storage drawer. The same F code names different faults on different generations, so the model number matters. Many of the messages, such as a locked door, a sabbath or a push-button prompt, are not faults at all and clear with a few key presses.

A code that shows during or after a self-clean often means the door lock did not complete its cycle, or the oven was too hot for the control to continue. Let the oven cool, switch the breaker off for a minute and back on. A code that shows when you start to bake points at a temperature sensor or the control, and a code that shows at power-up with a dead keypad points at the board or a stuck key.

Stop for the smell of gas, for anything that sparks or smokes, and for work behind the panel on a range that is plugged into a 240-volt circuit.

The messages that bring Maytag range owners here are mostly not faults. PUSH or PSH means the control is waiting for Start after you chose a function, so press Start within five seconds; a flashing time or 12:00 means power was interrupted and the clock needs setting. Locked or Loc means the Control Lock is on, and holding the lock key clears it. Sabbath, Sab, 5Ab or 5A7 mean Sabbath Mode is on, which holds the oven on and disables the normal behavior, and the sequence to cancel it is in the manual for your model.

The codes that are faults are the door-latch family (9D11, F5 and relatives), where the oven light does not follow the door, and the element code FEE6, where the bake or broil circuit needs a look.

Gas and electric Maytag ranges differ in what a code can mean. On an electric range the oven elements and the cooktop are all electrically controlled, so a code can name a bake or broil element, a sensor or the latch. On a gas range the oven igniter and the gas valve are part of the picture, and an oven that will not light with no code is a different job from an oven that shows a code. If you smell gas, leave the kitchen, do not touch switches and call the gas supplier; no code on this page is worth a risk.

What should I do if my Maytag oven shows F-code after self-clean?

Let it cool completely, power it off at the breaker for a minute and restore it; if the code returns, the lock or a sensor needs service.

Are all Maytag range messages faults?

No. Messages such as door locked, sabbath and push prompts are states that clear with a key press.

Why does my Maytag oven show PUSH?

The control is waiting for Start. Press Start within five seconds of choosing a function.

How do I turn off Sabbath Mode on a Maytag range?

Use the cancel sequence in the owner's manual for your model; Sabbath Mode holds the oven on and disables normal behavior.
