• When the battery is worn out
  Apple designs the iPhone 14 battery to keep up to 80 percent of its original capacity at 500 complete charge cycles. A phone bought in 2022 is now well past that, so short life and sudden shutdowns are usually a worn battery; Settings, Battery, Battery Health shows it.
• What a replacement changes
  A new battery restores runtime and ends unexpected shutdowns at low percentages, which software resets do not.
• Camera shake in third-party apps
  At launch the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max shook and made grinding noises when the camera was used inside Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok. Apple fixed it in iOS 16.0.2, so an iPhone 14 still doing this is on an old iOS.
• Emergency SOS via satellite
  The iPhone 14 and later can text emergency services by satellite when there is no cellular or Wi-Fi signal, but it may not work above about 62 degrees latitude, in northern Canada and Alaska.
