• LCD screen and Face ID
  The XR has an LCD screen and a Face ID sensor. A screen that flickers or loses touch after a drop needs a repair, and Face ID that stops working after a screen replacement may be a missing part, which only the repairer can fix.
• Storage on an older phone
  A 64 gigabyte XR fills up with photos and apps. Offload unused apps and use iCloud Photos with Optimize Storage so the phone has space for updates, because an update that cannot download is often a full phone.
• Buying a replacement battery
  Apple and authorized repairers replace the XR's battery, and a genuine part avoids the warning message that appears after an unofficial repair. Back up first, since a repair may require the phone to be erased, and ask whether the price includes a screen check.
• Moving to a newer phone
  When you move to a newer iPhone, use the Quick Start process with both phones side by side, or restore from an iCloud backup. Keep the XR's eSIM or SIM until you have confirmed that the new phone is active with your carrier.
