Epson printers: EcoTank, WorkForce and Expression

Epson's printers fall into two groups. The EcoTank models, such as the ET-2850, use refillable ink tanks and are meant to be cheap to run, while the WorkForce Pro models, such as the WF-4830, use pigment ink cartridges and a heat-free print head for office documents. Both are inkjets, so most faults come from the same cause: ink that has dried in the print head. Blank pages, faded lines and missing colors are nozzle problems, and the cure is the nozzle check and head cleaning in the printer's menu.

Use cleaning with care. Each cleaning uses ink and fills the waste ink pad, so run one, check the result and wait a few hours before another, because ink softens a dried clog with time. On an EcoTank, keep the ink above the lower line on every tank, since a tank that runs low lets air into the supply and the printer prints blanks. Print a page every few days so that the head does not dry out, and use the paper type setting that matches the paper so that colors come out right.

For Wi-Fi problems, print a network status sheet and compare the address with the one the computer uses, and install Epson's full driver and the Epson Smart Panel app for setup and updates. A message about the ink pad or a service life reached needs Epson support, since the pad can only be replaced by a technician.
