What is true of this model and changes how you fix it

• Panel — LCD, not OLED
  The panel is a Mini-LED LCD lit by a full-array backlight split into many small dimming zones, which separates it from the OLEDs in LG's range. Light spilling from a zone into its neighbors explains a soft glow near bright text on black and grayish blacks at night; the Local Dimming control trades that glow against shadow detail.
• Smart platform
  The TV runs webOS 24 and is operated with the pointer-style Magic Remote. Apps come from the LG Content Store, and the software update item lives under Settings, Support.
• Gaming / HDMI
  Its HDMI 2.1 inputs carry 4K at up to 120 hertz with variable refresh, auto low-latency mode and FreeSync, though the panel does not go beyond 120. Switch on Game Optimizer for the input a console uses.
• Updating
  An app that fails often needs the TV's software and the app updated. Without a connection the TV cannot do either.
• Local dimming
  The Local Dimming setting adjusts the trade-off between blooming and contrast.
• Where it sits in the 2024 line
  The QNED90T is the top of LG's QNED family, with a Mini-LED backlight and a quantum-dot film, and it costs less than an OLED of the same size. It suits bright rooms, where its brightness outweighs the stronger blacks of an OLED.
• Local dimming settings
  The TV controls how many zones dim in the Picture, Brightness settings, where a low, medium and high choice trade halos against black depth. For a dark film pick a higher level, and for a bright sports picture a lower one avoids a dark patch around fast-moving objects.
• Viewing angle
  Because it is an LCD, colors and contrast fade when you sit well off to the side. A sofa positioned in front of the screen is best, and a wall bracket that tilts a little helps if the TV hangs high.
• Wi-Fi, apps and updates
  The webOS system shows the update status in Settings, Support, Software Update. A TV on a weak Wi-Fi signal downloads updates slowly and apps buffer, so a cable to the router or a mesh node near the TV improves both.
• Getting the most from a Mini-LED set
  Set the Energy Saving option to Off or Minimum, since the automatic setting dims the backlight to meet energy targets and makes the TV look weaker than it is. Choose HDR Effect off for real HDR content, because the effect brightens standard pictures artificially, and set the Brightness for the room in the Picture menu before judging contrast.
• Cleaning and placement
  Wipe the screen with a dry microfibre cloth and keep the TV out of direct sunlight on the panel's side, which warms it and fades the film. Leave a hand's width of space behind it for air, since a Mini-LED backlight runs warmer than a plain LED one.
