Bradford White gas water heater code 1 flash then pause (ICON V1): meaning and exact next steps

1 flash then pause (ICON V1) means ICON System V1 control: normal operation. Bradford White gas water heater code 2 flashes: meaning and exact next steps

2 flashes means White Rodgers: low thermopile voltage with the main burner not lit, probably from loose thermopile connections or a weak pilot flame. ICON System V2 (yellow light): low thermopile voltage with the main valve not turned on, so check the thermopile and its connections and check the pilot flame. ICON System V1: a weak pilot signal is detected and the system resets when the pilot flame is sufficient.

Every code

Every Bradford White gas water heater code: what it means and what to do

Bradford White gas water heater code 8 flashes

ICON System V1 control only: the standing pilot remains on while the set-point knob is in the OFF position. Bradford White lists the pilot valve stuck in the open position as the cause.

Turn the temperature knob to OFF and note whether the pilot stays lit.

Bradford White's service procedure is to replace the gas control.

Bradford White gas water heater code 1 flash every second

White Rodgers and ICON System V2 controls: not an error. The main valve is open and the main burner is lit, and the thermostat is calling for heat so the water heater is in its heat cycle. On V2 the control automatically shuts the main burner off when the water reaches the set-point temperature.

Nothing is wrong when the light flashes once a second while the burner is on.

Bradford White lists no service procedure: it is normal operation.

Bradford White gas water heater code 7 flashes

ICON System V1 control only: a gas control electronic fault was detected. Bradford White lists a control that needs to be reset, or one that is wet or physically damaged.

Check for water on or around the gas control.

Bradford White's service procedure: reset the gas control, and if that does not clear it, replace the gas control.

Bradford White gas water heater code 6 flashes

ICON System V1 control only: a water leak was detected by the accessory module, from an excessive amount of water in the drain pan or water dam.

Look for water in the drain pan and shut off the cold-water supply to the water heater if it is leaking.

Bradford White's service procedure: check the T&P valve, check all water fittings, and pressurize and leak-test the tank. A leaking tank cannot be repaired by tightening fittings.

Bradford White gas water heater code 1 flash every 4 seconds

White Rodgers and ICON System V2 controls: not an error. The pilot is lit and the main burner is off, and the gas valve is powered and waiting for the set-point knob to be turned to a water temperature setting. If the knob is at the desired setting, the thermostat is satisfied.

Check that the temperature knob is set to the setting you want.

Bradford White lists no service procedure: it is normal operation. On the ICON System V1 the equivalent normal state is one flash and a three-second pause, described on that page.

Bradford White gas water heater code Solid on

Not an error on any of the three controls. The control is in shutdown because the set-point knob was recently turned to the OFF position (on ICON System V2 the solid light is red).

Wait until the light goes out before you try to relight the pilot.

Bradford White says the light will go out and the control will function normally once the pilot is lit.

Bradford White gas water heater code 3 flashes

ICON System V1 control only: insufficient water heating, and the system will reset. Bradford White lists the thermal sensor being out of calibration or a faulty gas control as the causes.

Note whether the water heater is heating the water at all.

Bradford White's service procedure is to replace the gas control.
