Open recordRheem water heater and furnace codes
Rheem water heaters and tankless units report faults with a number on the display or a pattern of flashes on the gas valve, and the codes differ by product: a tankless code 24 is a switch fault, code 82 relates to the program chip, and a power vent heater flashes in sequences such as six then three for a lost flame. Gas appliances also carry safety lockouts, so shut off the gas and call service if you smell gas. Model and serial numbers are on the data plate.
Rheem makes gas and electric tank water heaters, tankless water heaters, furnaces and air conditioners, and the codes differ by product type. Tankless models show numbered codes on the remote control, such as 11 for no flame detected or 16 for an outlet temperature above the set point, and Rheem's own instructions are to turn on a hot tap, recheck the display, then unplug the unit for about 30 seconds and restart it before calling for service.
Check the basics first: that the gas valve is open, the vent is clear, the power is connected and the remote control is not stuck. Water heaters that leak, smell of gas or trip breakers need to be shut off and looked at by a professional. The model and serial number on the data plate tell a technician which version of the code table to use.
How do I reset a Rheem tankless water heater?
Turn off the faucet and the heater, unplug it for about 30 seconds, plug it back in and run a hot tap. If the code returns, note it and call for service.
