LG appliance codes: washers, dryers, ranges and climate

LG's washer codes are mostly two characters, and the common ones are easy to learn: IE means water is not entering, OE means water is not draining, UE means the load is unbalanced, dE means the door is not closed or latched, LE means the motor is locked and PF means the power failed during the cycle. LG dryers use d80 to d95 for restricted exhaust and tE codes for temperature sensors, dehumidifiers and air conditioners use CH codes, and ranges and ovens use F codes for the control, the touch panel and the oven temperature.

Start with the page for your appliance type, since the same letters can differ between a washer and a dryer. Safe checks are ordinary ones: clear the drain filter, check the water taps, rebalance the load, clean the lint screen and vent, and restart the appliance at the breaker. Codes that point to a locked motor, a sensor or the main board mean the appliance needs a technician. LG gives some codes as warnings and others as errors, and each page says which.

LG groups codes by product, and a letter code on a washer can mean something different on a dryer or a dishwasher. The library also includes LG's air conditioners and dehumidifiers, which use CH codes, and LG ranges and ovens, which use F codes for the touch pad, the control board and the inverter in induction models. Where LG gives separate numbers for the same fault, such as d80, d90 and d95 on a dryer, those are shown together.

Model numbers matter, since a code can appear only on certain years. LG's ThinQ app shows the same codes and sometimes adds a recommended step, which is worth opening if the appliance is connected.

LG also publishes codes for its dehumidifiers, air conditioners and ranges, which look different from the washer letter codes. Dehumidifier and air conditioner CH codes cover electronics, pressure, fan and communication faults, and range F codes cover the touch pad, temperature probes and the main board. Because a code can mean different things on a different appliance, always start with the product type.

What does OE mean on an LG washer?

OE means the washer cannot drain. Clear the drain-pump filter and check the drain hose for a kink or a clog.

Does d80 on an LG dryer mean the dryer is broken?

No. It means the vent is partly blocked. Clean the lint screen, the hose and the outside hood.
