Trane furnace and air conditioner codes

Trane furnaces show a diagnostic code on the control board LED or a seven-segment display, and the code tells you which safety circuit is open or which component failed. A pressure switch code relates to venting or the inducer, a rollout switch code relates to flames outside the burner box and a limit code to overheating. Check the filter and vents first, then call a technician for anything involving gas or combustion. The model number is on the data plate inside the furnace door.

Trane furnaces, heat pumps and air handlers report faults through a flashing LED on the control board, and the legend is on a label inside the access panel. The number of flashes and the pause between groups is the code, so count them more than once. Many Trane codes concern the safety circuit: the pressure switch that proves the exhaust is venting, the limit switch for overheating, the flame sensor and the ignition. The first checks are the same across systems: a clean filter, open vents, a clear condensate drain and clear outdoor vent pipes.

Codes for communication between the thermostat and the equipment usually need the wiring and the thermostat settings checked, and codes for the control board, gas valve or inducer motor are for a licensed technician. Heat pumps add defrost and refrigerant-related codes that are not owner repairs.

Where do I find the Trane code legend?

Look inside the furnace or air handler access panel, where the control board's flash-code table is printed on a label.
