Ring Battery Doorbell Plus shared users or family members cannot control it

Ring Battery Doorbell Plus shared users or family members cannot control it: invitation/account, home membership, role/permission and platform region should be separated. Scoped to 5F77E9.

Sharing a Ring Battery Doorbell Plus means inviting people as Shared Users on your Ring account, and Ring's help article on shared and Guest users sets out the steps. In the Ring app tap the menu, choose Control Center or Settings, then User Permissions and Invite User, choose Family, friend or employee, enter their name and email, and pick the location and the individual devices they may see. Choose a permission level, Standard, Limited or Advanced, and send the invitation.

The checks in more detail

The person receives an email with instructions and has 14 days to accept it; if the invitation has expired, send it again. Because the Battery Doorbell Plus is a doorbell, the sensible choice for most family members is a level that lets them see live video and event history and receive the visitor and motion alerts, and keep the Advanced level, which can download recordings and manage other users, for a partner or someone you trust fully. Guest users are for Ring Alarm only, with an arm and disarm code, so they do not apply to a doorbell.

When a person says they cannot see the doorbell, the cause is nearly always in the invitation. Ring says devices must be individually selected when you invite, so open their entry under User Permissions and check that the Battery Doorbell Plus is ticked. If you have more than one location, the user needs access to each location separately. A shared user must create or use a Ring account with the same email you invited, and accept the invitation on a phone with the Ring app installed.

Notifications are set by each person on their own phone, so a shared user who gets no alerts needs to allow notifications for the app and switch on the alerts for that doorbell in their own settings. To remove someone, go to Settings, User Permissions, select the user and the location and tap Remove user from this location, then Delete User. Review the list when people move out. Because a doorbell sees the front door and the street, think about privacy before you share, and only share with people who need it.
