Kenmore washing machines: who built yours and where to look

Kenmore is a brand, not a manufacturer, and the first three digits of the model number tell you who built the washer: 110 means Whirlpool, 796 means LG, 417 Frigidaire and 363 GE. That single fact decides which fault codes apply, which parts fit and which maker's guidance helps, so read the label before you open a fix. The directory lists Kenmore washers by the family that built them.

A 110 washer uses Whirlpool's F#E# codes, with Sud for foam and LF for a long fill, and its parts match the Whirlpool model with the same number. A 796 washer uses LG's UE, OE and dE codes. Common faults are shared across makers: a slow drain from a clogged pump filter, a door that will not lock because of clothing in the gasket, shaking from an unlevel stand, and an odor from a damp drum that a monthly clean cycle and an open door prevent.

The model and serial numbers are on a label inside the door opening of a front-loader or under the lid of a top-loader. Sears and Kenmore customer service ask for both, and parts sellers search by the full model number. Quote the whole string, including the digits after the prefix.
