• A power surge: The code appeared after a storm or a flicker and does not return. LG names a power surge; a reset clears a one-off

LG says the CE error indicates an over-current in the electrical circuit of the motor, caused by a short circuit, loose connection, ground fault or power surge. Unplug the washer for 10 seconds.

The child lock feature is active — LG is explicit that CL is NOT an error code. While it is active the control panel is disabled and settings cannot be adjusted.

• Child Lock is on: CL shows and the control panel does nothing, which points to child Lock is on. LG says CL is not an error code; it shows the child lock is active and settings cannot be adjusted

• A damaged heating element: The thermistor is fine but the water does not heat. The front-load table says to check the heating element for damage and replace it if defective
