Published specification

What is true of this model and changes how you fix it

These are the properties that decide which procedure applies. Each is read from the manufacturer’s own published figures for this model, not carried over from a sibling that shares its retail name.

Model — PS4 Pro (CUH-7000)
The enhanced PS4 with a stronger GPU for 4K (checkerboard-rendered) and HDR output on supported games, 1TB hard drive, and a Blu-ray/DVD drive. An older-generation console still supported for online on many games.
Storage — hard drive (upgradeable)
It uses a 2.5-inch SATA hard drive, which you can replace with a larger drive or an SSD to add space and speed — unlike the PS5's soldered SSD. Storage-full is solved by swapping the drive or deleting games.
Network
Dual-band Wi-Fi and Gigabit Ethernet; for slow downloads a wired connection helps, and PS4 downloads are slower than PS5 regardless.

Questions that only have an answer for the PlayStation 4 Pro

Each answer below uses this model’s own published figures. The same question asked about a different model in the line has a different answer, which is why it is answered here rather than on a general page.

My PS4 Pro is loud and runs hot.+

PS4 Pros are known to get loud as the fan speeds up under demanding games, and dust makes it worse over years. Sit it in the open with clearance around the vents (not in a cabinet or on carpet), and clean the external vents of dust. If it is extremely loud, the internal fan and heatsink have likely collected dust and benefit from a proper cleaning. Loud-but-cool is usually just the fan; shutting down from heat means it needs cleaning or better airflow.
