What is true of this model and changes how you fix it

• Storage and drive, confirmed
  1TB SSD. Sony's own product listing confirms 'This console has a disc drive' and describes the design as 'Slim, sleek and compact' — the console covers sold for it are explicitly labeled 'model group - slim'.
• Model — PS5 Slim, disc (CFI-2000)
  The smaller 2023 PS5 with the Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive fitted, around 1TB SSD. It plays PS5 and PS4 discs and 4K UHD movie discs, and downloads.
• Detachable drive
  The disc drive on the Slim is a detachable module — if disc reading fails, confirm the drive is fully clicked on and seated (a partly attached drive will not read), before suspecting the drive itself.
• Storage & network
  ~1TB internal SSD plus an M.2 NVMe expansion slot; Wi-Fi 6 and Gigabit Ethernet — wired is most reliable for downloads and online play.
• Port change
  The front USB-A port was replaced with a second USB-C port at USB 2.0 speeds.

• What changed from the original PS5
  It launched in November 2023 in selected countries, up to 24 percent lighter than the launch models, with 1 TB of internal storage instead of 825 GB. The processor, graphics and 16 GB of memory stayed the same.
• The disc drive detaches
  Sony launched the drive as a separate $79.99 accessory for the Digital model. A drive that stops reading discs can be swapped without touching the rest of the console.
• Disc read faults
  Repair shops list disc drive failures as the second most common PlayStation repair after damaged HDMI ports. A dirty lens, a wear fault or a knock are the usual causes.
• Disc drive checks first
  A slot that will not take or eject a disc, or a console that will not read one, is the disc drive's complaint list. Test a known-good disc before anything else.
• HDMI first, if the screen is dark
  A dark TV with a running console is commonly the HDMI port or cable, well before any board repair.
