• Official specifications, digital model
  AMD Zen 2 8-core/16-thread CPU, 10 TFLOPS AMD RDNA GPU, GDDR6 16GB, 825GB custom SSD (no optical drive listed). External dimensions approx. 390 x 92 x 260mm — 12mm slimmer front-to-back than the disc model. Mass approx. 3.9kg (0.6kg lighter than the disc model's 4.5kg), maximum rated power 340W (vs the disc model's 350W).
• Model — PS5 launch Digital (CFI-1000/1100/1200)
  The original 2020 Digital Edition — no disc drive, download-only, 825GB SSD. Disc symptoms do not apply.
• Drive CANNOT be added
  Crucially, the launch Digital Edition CANNOT accept a disc drive — the detachable-drive option only exists on the later Slim and Pro. So this model is permanently download-only; there is no drive to add or troubleshoot.
• Storage & network
  825GB SSD (about 667GB usable) plus an M.2 NVMe expansion slot; Wi-Fi 6 and Gigabit Ethernet.

  The original Digital Edition launched on November 12, 2020 in the US, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea, and November 19 elsewhere, with an 8-core Zen 2 CPU at up to 3.5 GHz, a 36-unit RDNA 2 GPU at up to 2.23 GHz, 16 GB of GDDR6 and an 825 GB SSD.
• Model revisions
  The launch units are CFI-1000 to CFI-1018. The later CFI-1100 revision, released around August 2021, changed the heatsink and cut copper content, which made it roughly 300 g lighter.
• Repairs owners meet
  Repair shops say HDMI port damage is the most common PS5 fault, often accounting for no picture. Fan noise varies by fan maker, and owners report louder units with Nidec fans than with NMB or Delta ones.
• Adding storage
  The M.2 slot takes a PCIe Gen4 x4 NVMe SSD from 250 GB to 4 TB with read speeds of 5,500 MB/s or more, in sizes from 2230 to 22110.
• HDMI port damage
  Repair guides call a damaged HDMI port the commonest PS5 failure: the console powers up and makes sounds but nothing appears on the TV. Test with a different cable and TV input before blaming the port.
• No disc, same heat rules
  This edition has no disc drive. Dust, cabinets and a console kept upright for years are the heat causes that apply.
